There is an ancient Hawaiian konane board in the pahoehoe lava on this beachfront. I was lucky enough to have lived here, in 1978-79, with the Protect Kaho'olawe Ohana before the National Guard came and tried to make everyone leave. It had been that there was an authentic Hawaiian village at Kukailimoku Point in the 70's. Also there are or were petroglyphs farther inland. I hope they were preserved, before those ridiculously plush luxury homes were built upon one of the only genuinely pristine beachfronts in Kailua-Kona...lotsa scorpions and centipedes there...hope those households aren't polluting the area with toxic...
Read moreLove this beach always have. But have been noticing alot of people bringing their dogs and allowing them to swim around in the pond.. barking at some of the kids and peeing around the pond? Usually I'm not one to write reviews like this but I saw 5 different dogs here today. I'll keep it nice but just a friendly reminder that this is NOT a dog friendly beach. You can easily search which beaches are dog friendly. Please stick to the beaches where your dogs are allowed to pee wherever they please, not where our keiki are playing on...

2022 update: unfortunately, as with all the beaches on our beautiful island, this one is now constantly crowded and the trash cans, the last dozen times we went are overflowing, even though they're emptied every day. People, if the trash can is overflowing, then take your trash home and dump it there. Stop throwing it on the side of the trash cans or leaving it in piles on the beach. Com'on already. If you could carry it in, then carry it out. Wish I never shared this...
