Love this beach always have. But have been noticing alot of people bringing their dogs and allowing them to swim around in the pond.. barking at some of the kids and peeing around the pond? Usually I'm not one to write reviews like this but I saw 5 different dogs here today. I'll keep it nice but just a friendly reminder that this is NOT a dog friendly beach. You can easily search which beaches are dog friendly. Please stick to the beaches where your dogs are allowed to pee wherever they please, not where our keiki are playing on sand. Mahalo

Awesome place for the family that is out of the way and safe to let the little ones play. The area is formed by a barrier of lava rocks acting as protection against the waves while still allowing water to enter and adjusting the pond levels with the tide. There are handful of fish that call the pond home allowing for an easy introduction to snorkeling for children. Most groups in the area were families with a couple groups being older/younger adults who were respectful of the families in the vicinity.

Nice little area but kind of difficult to get there. Google maps led me to a private neighborhood but the guard gave me some printed directions to a fitness center where I parked in the back and walked across some grass fields and through that same private neighborhood that had public access through a couple of gates that were unlocked at 7:00am. I was just looking for a photo to take so didn't pay attention to the beach area. Found a nice area where the waves crashed in and took some cool pics.

There is an ancient Hawaiian konane board in the pahoehoe lava on this beachfront. I was lucky enough to have lived here, in 1978-79, with the Protect Kaho'olawe Ohana before the National Guard came and tried to make everyone leave. It had been that there was an authentic Hawaiian village at Kukailimoku Point in the 70's. Also there are or were petroglyphs farther inland. I hope they were preserved, before those ridiculously plush luxury homes were built upon one of the only genuinely pristine beachfronts in Kailua-Kona...lotsa scorpions and centipedes there...hope those households aren't polluting the area with toxic...

Safe for small children and beautiful views

2022 update: unfortunately, as with all the beaches on our beautiful island, this one is now constantly crowded and the trash cans, the last dozen times we went are overflowing, even though they're emptied every day. People, if the trash can is overflowing, then take your trash home and dump it there. Stop throwing it on the side of the trash cans or leaving it in piles on the beach. Com'on already. If you could carry it in, then carry it out. Wish I never shared this...
