I had the chance to dine in at Arise Kona Bakery and Cafe on a Thursday morning with my pregnant fiancée. The atmosphere was inviting and the restaurant has a nice theme overall.
When we ordered, my fiancée was in the mood for eggs, but since she is lactose intolerant, I asked if we could get a breakfast sandwich without cheese and bacon. Unfortunately, I was told that all of their eggs are premade with cheese every morning, so they weren’t able to accommodate that. This is important for future customers with dietary restrictions — their eggs always contain cheese. We also tried to order a chicken sandwich without cheese, but again, that wasn’t possible.
My fiancée ended up settling for a turkey sandwich. Even though I asked to have the bacon removed (since we don’t eat pork), it still came with bacon. On my side, I ordered the salmon open toast, which I really enjoyed — flavorful and fresh.
One thing that left me uneasy was when I asked for recommendations for my pregnant fiancée. The cashier first suggested the salmon toast, but when I mentioned that my fiancée was pregnant, she casually commented that it’s “not recommended but still healthy.” That felt dismissive and showed me a lack of care or awareness, especially since I want to make sure my child is as healthy as possible. Perhaps it was just a lack of knowledge, but it stood out.
On a positive note, the rest of the staff was friendly and welcoming, and the food we did have tasted great. With a little more attentiveness to dietary needs and communication, this place could truly...
Read moreFrom the outside, it's crazy to think that salvation army used to occupy this space. Arise kona bakery and cafe had shown how wonderful you can design & create a space here in kona. It's a very nice use of the space now, it transformed what it's previous tenants had there before.
The atmosphere is nice, there's a space upstairs if you want an adults only area for some studying or light reading.
I had personally ordered a kailua kona shake, avocado toast, and a pastry from the display case (dulche de leche cannoli). The shake was something I needed for awhile 🤣🤍. You can't beat kona coffee anything. This shake was delicious. The table had agreed it was something they're getting next time they come. The avocado toast was light and although I only need half, it was delicious to have. The cannoli was pretty good. I rarely have cannolis but it was fluffy (not hard) and the filling was the perfect consistency.
The furniture, vibes, staff, and every aspect of this space is wonderful. The only con might be limited bathroom space. Otherwise, a wonderful establishment to stop by or relax in.
The complimentary water had some citrus fruits in there and was not over powering.
The refresher drinks like the pink drink truly looks refreshing.
Their glassware is beautiful for the drinks, I'd recommend bringing your own straw.
This place almost makes you think you're not in kona, it transforms into such a nice...
Read moreWhat a Great place !!!! Especially in Kailua-Kona where we are self labeled as Country. However we have no stand alone bakeries, fish market, farms for fresh eggs or milk, or even meat plants. You walk in and the place is spacious with high ceilings and has two floors Clean and modern. Coffee is bold and tasteful. Decorated foam tops on specialty drinks House coffee comes with refills. All prices are reasonable Also, No Starbucks olive oil in the cafe here!!! Ugh!!! Fresh baked REAL sour dough and French breads every day. Caprese and focaccia bread is excellent!!! Pastries like the poppyseed and fruit pastries are fresh and tasteful as well. Cobb Salads are fresh with many ingredients. Big enough for two to share for only 10. Staff is friendly and helpful. No lack of social skills or “ I don’t know “ from the employees Have not had a sandwich here but they also look great!!! Really nice place to get out of the sun and relax in a very welcoming place. I love the name “ Arise” as I am a Christian person. This is a very needed place in Kona where everything is just business and very overpriced. We need more places like this one. The only down side here is not enough parking A bit dangerous in fact. However, should you come here- you will not be disappointed. Enjoy yourself !!!! We need more places of business like this in...
