I went to the salon to get my “money pieces” brightened up, which is usually a couple pieces in the front of the face, not anything too crazy. Before coming in they make you fill out a consultation form attaching photos of what you are looking for. One of the questions on the form asked what your occupation was which I thought was weird to ask and very irrelevant and unnecessary. When I got to the salon I asked how much for pricing. They told me they will not know the price until after my hair is done. I got my hair done and they did take good time and care, but what I wanted versus what I received was not provided. Basically the entire front of my hair was platinum blonde. There was no blending and when I would put my hair up all you would see is blonde. I naturally have dark brown hair and the contrast was not good and there was wayyy too much blonde. The total came out to $200.00! Insane, I have never paid that much for my hair, especially for just a couple pieces that I was looking for. I was trying to let the hair grow on me but after a couple days I called the salon because I was unhappy. Upon my second visit I showed a photo of how my hair used to look back in the day with some blonde pieces in the front, mentioning I still wanted some blonde “peek-a-boo” pieces in the front, but the color needed to be toned down and about 80% of the blonde they put in needed to be removed. Once my hair was done there was no blonde at all anymore and now my hair is even a darker brown with some red pieces. They did not charge me to get this fixed but I was still very upset and not satisfied with how my hair came out. Overall with tipping and a 1 time blowout I spent $300.00. I called the salon a couple days later and asked to speak to the owner. She told me she was going to talk to the stylist and will call me back with a solution. I never heard back. I hate to be the person to write a bad review, but I am also upset that I spent a good amount of money and my hair looks nothing like what I wanted. I am appreciative that they were willing to try fixing my hair and did not charge me a second time, but essentially I paid all this money and spent hours to have my hair go back to how it originally was. I am aware Hoboken prices are usually higher than other salons that I have gone to before, but I did not like how they were also not able to provide a ball park of how much the service would cost. I showed other stylist photos of what I wanted versus what I got and they agreed that it did not match. I am now giving my hair a break before going to a different salon in order to get what I was originally looking for. I unfortunately will...
Read moreEveryone knows how difficult is to change hair salons... to find a professional that truly gets you and your style is a titanic endeavor. I read the reviews of Hair Cult and because I had to I jumped... reviews were good and I really need a root touch up and a refresh of my highlights.
They were super attentive and professionals from the very beginning.
They have an online questionnaire that I found very easy to fill and gave me peace of mind that the person on the other side will understand what I wanted.
Arrival and welcome impeccable.
Showed them pictures, told them what I did not want. Showed them what I wanted.
Now... time for coloring.. well I will say this, highlights came up exactly as I wanted.
Base color came exactly as I told them I did NOT want it. It took me years to remove the dark base of my hair... and now is fully back on :(
Not going to lie, although they were nice, they did not say once they made a mistake or apologize for the colossal fiasco that will take me years to fix... but they did the next best thing which is take action when they saw me about to cry... and they offer me an appointment to try to fix it...
I still do not know how will they be able to erase completely the dark color base they put without turning it into a red hot root or frying my hair... but because I really hate how I look right now - still I am willing to give them a chance...
The price was quite expensive for a root touch up and a partial highlights in my humble opinion, I paid over 300 usd. In manhattan normally it did not go beyond 190 usd... so...that's a negative...
UPDATE
I went today to get the dark roots fixed...
Again super nice everybody.
They did camouflage the dark roots with more highlights. They are still there... but at least you don't see them that much...
Now we have a plan to get my hair color back on track... because I have ended with 2/3 different tones of blonde... the ends of my hair color was more or less how I had it before... and the part towards the roots is the color they made today...
I give them 4 stars for the good intent and the kindness and good vibe of all the people...
I still think it's a matter of fine tuning with them... so will keep working to achieve my...
Read moreI’ve been meaning to write this review for a while now. I had the pleasure of having my hair done by Jenny back in mid July. It was my first time at Hair Cult. I’ve walked by the salon multiple times and simply peeking through the front windows you can get a feel for the cool yet relaxed atmosphere. The interesting metal scorpion art piece out front was the first thing that caught my attention; the second was the shelves of Aveda bottles proudly displaying their products. I am new to the area from upstate New York. I was expecting to find overly priced services and arrogant attitudes – and I was pleasantly surprised to find just the opposite. Yes well, the prices aren’t exactly “cheap” but you do get what you pay for – high quality Aveda products along with a well-knowledgeable and skilled staff. Also the prices were comparable to what I have paid back home. Aside from the reasonable pricing, I was completely won over by my stylist Jenny. She was everything you look for in a stylist - approachable, friendly, knew her products, and wore her own hair in a way that looked simple yet perfect at the same time. Jenny took my impossibly vague request of having my highlights look “naturally subtle but also really super blonde” and gave me the perfect shade for summer. I can admit, I am not always the easiest client because I never truly know what I want and I can never explain it clearly, but she was able to give me a cut and color that was just what I was looking for. Andrea who washed my hair was delightful; she gave me a relaxing scalp massage that left me feeling completely relaxed. Over all I loved it here, the salon reached far above my expectations – to top it all off I was given a free sample of fancy lotion in a cute little bag just because it was my first time there! From the moment I entered and was greeted by the fluffy shop dog Leche to the moment I walked out with my beautiful new haircut it was a really great experience. I recommend this salon to anyone looking for salon that offers great products and a...
