Maroons Creamery - Hand Crafted Ice Cream — Restaurant in Hoboken

Coming back here to re-review now that I’ve visited a few times. Since I first visited last year I have just been disappointed more and more with each visit. In my pictures you can see the first review I left (5 stars) with the two pictures of the Ube ice cream based desserts we had which were amazing (went on 6/16/24). On my second visit to the store (9/15/24), I ordered the same ube ice cream but this time as a bubble tea and you can see the ice cream is completely different. I hardly tasted any Ube flavor, instead it tasted like the whipped icing on ice cream cake. SO BAD. I barely could finish it. I went back again a couple of weeks ago (6/8/25) to give it yet another try because I really wanted to like this place lol. I asked to sample the Ube and it was the same whipped cream tasting Ube as before so I skipped it and got the Thai tea bubble tea beverage. Sadly they didn’t put any of the Boba in it - one of the main points! It was clear the employee was not familiar with the menu as she kept looking at the pictures of what people were ordering. She also kept burning the waffles for an order and it slowed down the line a ton and eventually she told the person they had to switch their order. Because we waited for so long, I didn’t want to complain about my order missing the boba and just left with it as is. Although this place was great a year ago, I don’t plan to go back. Felt ripped off and it’s just gone...

Nice selection of flavors but that is about it. The team working here could benefit from a few shifts at a cold stone or better yet, Cava, to understand how to efficiently run a line of orders. Everyone was going through the line and under the impression you would order from the person scooping, but then we were told we’d only be waited on if we ordered & paid at the register - leading to a delay since people were going back and forth making sure they had the flavor names correct. About 10 mins after ordering, I’m called to retrieve my order only it’s not mine but someone else’s who had been ahead of me and the person scooping had mixed up the orders. I politely remind them what we had ordered and wait another 5 minutes for my 1 single scoop.

Overall, I don’t think I’d recommend this place unless you are trying to kill 20 mins or want to witness a case study on inefficiency by watching 3 blind mice try and run an...

Been here twice and the ice cream is all right, not better than Ben and Jerry’s, Thomas’s, any local gelato (lab, Kiku), Rita’s to name a few, the biggest draw is location, but Morelia’s is here now, and they beat Maroons to it. What sets them apart is that the service is appalling. I was offended both times. I never write negative reviews, but I was so disgusted on both occasions I can’t restrain myself. I left 1/3 of my order there because it was melted by the time my third item arrived (3 others for people that ordered after me flew by previously). I’ve been waiting for an ice cream shop uptown since the place on 14th and Shipyard closed and unfortunately, it’s only a matter of time for Maroons, so beyond...
