Soho Nails — Local services in Hoboken

This is by far one of the worst pedicure and manicure experiences I’ve ever had.

Firstly, when they were doing my pedicure, they didn’t apply a base coat to protect the nail from turning yellow. When I asked, she said it wasn’t necessary (Strike #1). After she was done with my pedicure, it was sloppily done (see picture) and she didn’t bother to clean it up (Strike #2).

Secondly, when she was removing my powder nail polish, she used the machine to remove my gel so much that it hurt. She proceeds to do the same with my next fingernail, but I asked her not to and to use the filer. She got irritated but complied (strike #3). After the powder gel manicure came off, she filed my nails, and boy was I annoyed at that point because it wasn’t round. It was half-assed, pointy and NOT round (strike #4). I asked her for the filer and refiled it myself. She spoke in Korean to some other lady and they swapped, so I got a new manicurist. The new manicurist tried to clean up my cuticles filed some more, and it was dusty. Instead of asking me to wash my hands or her use a wet cloth to clean my nails before applying the polish, she just started painting on top of all nail dust (strike #5). At that point, I’ve had it and told her to stop. I’ll pay for the services up to that point but I was going to go elsewhere because I was very unhappy with my service altogether.

I really do not ever post reviews but honestly was just so annoyed with this experience. I got a gel manicure. First the manicurist was taking my gel off pretty recklessly and clipped off a small piece of my thumb nail. Not great. Then once my gel manicure was done, I asked her to please not file because every time they file, my gel doesn’t last as long and ends up starting to peel in just a few days. The manicurist said no, she had to file because she knows what she’s doing and she has to do her job. Of course, I’m not a manicurist, but if you google “should I file after gel manicure” you’ll see the answer is “you should avoid it”. I’ve been getting gel for probably 10 years at this point so I know what works for me and what doesn’t. Not to mention, I’m paying to have a service done to me… if I ask for something not to be done, then just don’t do it… I’m newly a Hoboken resident and they just lost what would’ve been a very regular customer...

The best nail salon I have ever been to. Quiet and small and the owner is a sweetheart and will start recognizing you quickly. Amazing gel manicures that last for weeks. My UV gel manis last 4-5 weeks looking flawless. The pedicures are relaxing and wonderful also. They give a little back massage after your mani which is heavenly. Prices are reasonable.
