Stingray Lounge — Restaurant in Hoboken

I have been here twice!

First time I sat at the bar and the bartender was the nicest! I, sadly didn’t get his name.

Today was my 2nd time, after work I brought my husband and sleeping son in stroller. (We really needed some one on one quality time and while our baby slept! It was the perfect time.)

Drinks are well made and food is delish! My husband it’s a big seafood man and he said everything tasted fresh, freshest in Hoboken and wants to come back.

My first interaction when arrived wasn’t the nicest and it made me almost want to leave.

We arrived, asked if we could seat outside and the gentleman who greeted us when I walked in said to give him a second. My silly husband understood he could seat/walk to a table. The person who greeted us, was the busser. Busser went to speak to a server who was outside and she seemed annoyed. I tell my husband to wait before seating down. And she said— he is just a busser with a not so nice tone of voice. Like we are supposed to know, the busser doesn’t know how seating works. Then the host moved my husband to another table because of the stroller, but sat another customer with a bigger stroller at that same table. We don’t mind moving, but we were a little upset about our first interaction at that point.

Anyway, I went to use the restroom and my husband said we should leave because of the attitude of this said person and he didn’t feel like they wanted us there. but I really wanted him to try the food.

Then Bobbi came! I asked if she was going to be our server, she said yes with a weird look. Maybe she thought I had an issue, not at all! I was relieved!!

Bobbi- you are nice and attentive. My husband and I needed a little break from our teenagers who drives us crazy! And the baby sleeping made it a perfect opportunity. Thank you sooo much for your service! We are coming back because you made us feel better! Next time I come, I only want to be seated in your section!

Stingray Lounge is a hidden gem. I was really hesitating to write this review because I'm being selfish and don't want anyone else to know about this place. It's has four of my favorite things about a bar:

Cheap drinks Seating Discounted apps (in this case, 50 cent clams on Thursdays) Late HH (Sun-Thurs 5-10: 50% off draft beers on Thursdays)

My boyfriend and I came in on a Thursday at around 7:30 and there were still a few seats left at the bar. Stingray Lounge is small. There are probably about 10 bar seats, and a couple of small tables in the back. It's definitely not for large groups but is a great date night spot.

The clams are such a great deal! They're comparable to NYC's HH $1 clams. They were plump and fresh tasting. On this night, I discovered that I might be allergic to either horseradish or mignonette, or at least an ingredient in there. Usually, when I eat it with clams, my throat gets super itchy. However, Stingray's clams comes with neither of these - just lemon and cocktail sauce, and these clams were fine for me. We also ordered some Old Bay fries on the side and it came with this great (homemade?) mustard dipping sauce.

My only peeve was that it took a bit longer to get their attention for another drink/the check, but it wasn't the worst thing in the world. It's not like we were in a rush, anyway.

Looking forward to some more of...

What a disappointing experience at this restaurant yesterday. We stopped by for dinner and the staff here are NOT welcoming at all. They would just stare. While they have some seats setup outdoors and appears to be appealing for a dining experience, the indoor dining area is small and similar to a hole in the wall restaurant. Our server was not pleasant at all and the restaurant was out of shrimp, ceviche and who knows what else. We proceeded to order our cocktails and our server said she would substitute more oysters for the shrimp and clams. However, we wanted to get additional crab or lobster instead and she said she would not be able to do that. We inquired about our cocktails after waiting a while and the server said the bar was backed up and that we could go check”. What? We finally got the cocktails after waiting a while and when we were told that we could only have oysters for the items that were out, we decided to close our bill and finish our cocktails. She was sure to include the gratuity as of we were not going to give any for the terrible service. Poor business judgement on their part to not make a simple accommodation and miss out on an additional $500...
