Starting in July, my family relocated to the island and got a rental through this Sixt location for a total of 6 weeks, then another 3 weeks from another location. The car they gave us was fantastic. It was basically a commuter car to get my husband to and from work. One day, he got to work and had a flat tire. He hasn’t run over anything or hit anything, it was just flat. He immediately called the roadside assistance and was advised to put on the spare and that he could take it and have the tire fixed and that we would be reimbursed (with the receipt) or we could just take it back and they would swap the car out. We called several places about getting the tire repaired and nobody was able to do it for several days. His commute and back to work was about 40 miles a day and we didn’t want to keep driving on the donut tire and chance actually causing damage to the car or tire so we just drove it back to Sixt and getting it swapped out. About a month ago we got a letter from their third party legal department saying that we owe them money for the damage we did to their car. I called today (yes I should have called earlier but had a child getting married and I had forgot until I got a second letter today) and the damage and repair department told me that I was liable for the damages done to the car. I told her that I completely understood that, but why would the road side assistance department tell me I would be reimbursed if I had paid to have it fixed. She just kept saying that I was liable for the tire. Then she changed her story that the account wasn’t notated that we would be reimbursed and that they don’t say that. I told her that I have no control over how their agents document calls and asked to talk to someone that could actually fix the problem. She cold transferred me to the roadside assistance department and that gentleman told me that she did NOT even document that I had called in to question it. Unfortunately he wasn’t able to help me because I don’t currently have a car. BUT I asked him what the policy was for the situation I had been in and he told me exactly what we had been told before. Either take it in and get it swapped out or fix it and get reimbursed with a receipt. He gave me the phone number and email to the damages and claims department (who I had spoken with before) and said that I should call them the next day as their office had closed for the day. Which I will do. But I will just tell you now, avoid this company. Not only did they have no military benefits, and wanted an arm and a leg to have an additional driver, they scam you. I completely understand thst we were renting a car and would have to cover the damages to a flat tire. However when they tell you that you will be reimbursed if you are able to have it fixed, that changes everything. The reason we didn’t have it fixed was because it couldn’t be for days and we didn’t want to actually damage anything driving on a donut tire. Go with someone that is honest and upfront. Even when we swapped the car out, they didn’t tell us we would be getting a bill for the tire. Complete dishonesty all around! Hopefully this gets resolved quickly, but based on the phone call I had today I’m not crossing my fingers. They are just...
Read moreSIXT is practicing bait and switch tactics and has falsely accused us of causing damage - do not rent with SIXT if you value your time and money.
My partner and I booked an XTAJ BMW Z4 car for our trip to Honolulu on 10/21-10/30, however upon arrival we were assigned a lower rate LTAR vehicle. We were promised to be reimbursed the difference in cost, however the manager wouldn't commit to the amount at the rental location. After our trip we had to contact SIXT separately to follow up and were offered only a $40 credit for the entire trip when the daily price difference between an XTAJ and LTAR vehicle was at least $20/day for the duration of our trip.
To add insult to injury, we were hit with a false damage claim. At the time of the rental pickup, we did a damage assessment by scanning the provided QR code with our rental paperwork, reviewing the existing damage against the documented damage shown in QR/app, and took photos and uploaded all the existing damage in addition. The damage was extensive with a number of scratches and dents. In addition to taking photos via the QA/app, we also took photos separately, just in case, which were location and time stamped, and notified the attendant on site that we had reported damage via the QR app, both before we left, and when we returned the vehicle. In both instances, we were told we were ok to leave without further guidance.
After our trip, we were hit for a claim for $1,532.00 (damage case: SX- 9074410084-88-800), suggesting we had damaged the vehicle during our rental. We shared that we used the QR code/app to report existing damage and sent a link of the time and location stamped photos showing the existing damage. We also requested that SIXT provide us with the pre-existing damage report prior to our rental and the damage report that we filled out via the QR code/app during pickup.
We were sent an invoice for the claim on Nov 14, and have not heard back despite numerous attempts to request the existing damage reports and notifying the claims team of the photo evidence showing that the damage was pre-existing to our rental period.
To date, SIXT has not responded to further inquiries about the false claim and has failed to produce the existing damage reports, while ignoring the evidence for pre-existing damage. Following review of the complaints posted to the better business bureau, this seems to be a common practice for SIXT.

Read moreWe went to Hawaii for our honeymoon in late October - November of 2024. We rented our car from SIXT. We had rented a specific car but when we got there we upgraded to a nicer BMW as the guy made it sound like it was a good deal. We were on our honeymoon so thought hey why not. Little did we know, we would hit a pot hole which then would cause us to have a flat tire. We were stranded on the side of the highway for 2 hours on the phone with SIXT. Mind you, getting ahold of someone was so hard. We called SIXT for help and were told we could pay for a tow truck to pick up our car and then pay for a tow truck to bring us a new car back, or we could pay for a tow truck to take our car to a tire shop, pay for the tire out of pocket, and then be reimbursed for the tire once the tire was replaced. We paid extra for insurance on our vehicle but didn’t pay for roadside assistance so paying for the tow truck was understandable. But for the tire, we were told by several people that we would be reimbursed. We called every tire shop on the island as the car we were driving required a special tire and not one place could get us in. Finally, we found a place to assist us. We got the new tire, had proof of receipts and contacted SIXT. When we dropped the car off we spoke to several workers at SIXT which informed us their manager would be calling us to send us reimbursement. It is now a year later, after several emails and trying to call, we still have heard nothing. We got one email back in December asking us for info which we sent and heard nothing since. Forgot to add, our insurance that was in the car was also expiring which was brought to our attention by our condo security when they took our vehicle information for a parking pass. So we had to call and get new insurance for the car which was another hassle. We are very dissatisfied with SIXT as this was our honeymoon and many extra stressors were thrown upon us. We don’t understand why we paid for insurance and were told we would be reimbursed and when we contacted them it was crickets. We will not be renting from this company again and just know if you do, and even if you pay for insurance, you are very likely to not get reimbursed. And mind you, insurance on this vehicle that we paid...
