The Rustic — Restaurant in Houston

We came for a birthday dinner with a couple friends upon my recommendation, as I have dined here a couple of times. Table of 16 with a reservation well in advance. Service started good with the drinks and ordered our food, but quickly declined after that. The only dish that came out in less than an hour was the smoked nachos. When asked why the food was taking so long, they said “we are trying to get all the food out at the same time.” Understandable, but we ended up waiting over an hour for our food. When our food did come, the food runners had no idea where each dish went even though we ordered in a line, 30% of it was missing, and some of it was cold. We had to tell the manager what dishes we were missing in order to get them. How can one forget a caesar salad? It’s a cold dish with no meat so why was it missing?

Neither of our two servers ever came to refill our waters all night - we were sharing and splitting waters amongst the table. Our servers never came to check on how we liked the food, so I was stuck with my leathery grilled artichoke all night. The only thing that was prompt was the bar. Makes sense, because you’d have to be hammered to not notice the long wait times and splotchy service.

I raised my concerns with the manager on duty, Matt, as feedback for the future and to see if we could be compensated for our less-than-subpar experience. While Matt did remove the items that did not come out on time, he was hesitant when asked if there was anything more he could do and did not seem like he wanted to compensate us for the poor service. He did not seem to care and had an “it is what it is” attitude. After a couple minutes of back and forth, he settled on an extra 15% off the bill, which is pennies on the dollar all things considered.

At this point, we’ve been here for 2.5 hours and only ate for 30 minutes. We were tired, beaten down, and just wanted to go home to try and salvage our Saturday night. When the checks came out, some of them still had missing items at full price and others were missing the additional 15% that Matt promised! You would think that after we complained to the manager that they would shape up and get the checks right! I had to go back and forth with the server about 4 times to get them to print out the receipts correctly. This back and forth took about 30 minutes, after which we had been for 3 hours. An 8pm reservation that didn’t get to leave until 11pm.

All-in-all, very poor experience - this might be the worst restaurant experience I have ever had, which is disappointing given the great location, nice decor, and decent reviews. I would not come back here nor would I recommend this to anyone I know - you can find much better American food in Houston that taste good, don’t serve cold food, and have front-of-house staff that care about the...

Slow service, Hamburger and chips took way to long ! Not cooked as I asked! I will not send anything back to be redone as I don't do that. Before Anyone Attacks me, straight out heads up place was less than Half full (not even close to half full) with plenty of Staff on hand! I don't just complain without being really disappointed in a food establishment as I understand you can't make everyone happy every time but I asked for well done (half done is what I got attached photo not sure what this is called) not close enough for me. Meal was paid for as I don't like staff or anyone else losing money(I paid because I Didn't get up and leave immediately, I believe if you eat more than 1 bite You should pay or 1 bite and give them opportunity to replace it )I usually eat all or most of my food as picture shows I didn't finish that ( as I stated before I don't send food back, I ate what I could as I had to get back to work) Prices were Fair and not overpriced by no means and they were friendly people, it's just not for me! Please note I don't live in this area of town so I could have ordered Wrong(not sure how but I do make mistakes, well done I thought Meant Fully cooked no pink), Really nice place to get a meal with Great atmosphere again just not for me. Pulling up to The Rustic I was very impressed looked like my type of place from the outside. It had been raining so couldn't sit outside. This place is huge and just really awesome inside. We were greeted warmly by the hostess but we decided we would sit at the bar. The place was pretty empty and there were only 2 other people at the bar which is huge!!! We sat down and waited for the bartender to acknowledge us and come over. We sat directly in her line of sight and we patiently waited as she was speaking to the two other customers. After waiting about 5 mins she looked over but continued her conversation with these gentlemen. We pulled up the menu on our phone using the QR code and say for an additional 5 mins. 10 minutes is usually when I will leave after not being acknowledged at an establishment. Yet I was intrigued as to why she would not come over to at least offer us water. Now I'm shooting daggers at her with my eyes because I am in disbelief that she's continuing to speak with these other customers and not come over to us. She finally comes over and I'm so upset I can't speak. My husband orders a beer and I just look at her trying to keep my composure. As she walks away to get the beer she mumbles "what's your problem" it took everything in me not to leave but I decided to just have a beer and possibly find something to eat. After discussing it with my husband we decided to order the Smoke Dip and then we would dip and go to another place to have food. The dip was really good.
