I visited the Houston Science Museum in Texas, and this was a part of the museum as well. This part of the museum was attached, and you walked right into it as you were walking around the science museum but when I got to this wing of the museum I learned I didn't purchase the right package to visit this particular part of the museum as I only had general admission for the museum. I would have loved this part of the museum the most, I think, and will be back in Houston ASAP in order to return to see this wing of the museum. We ran out of time to go and purchase the correct tickets to come to this part of the museum while we were there for this trip as we forgot about how bad the traffic can be in this city and we ate lunch at my sister's in Katy, then left her place at around 1 pm yet we didn't actually make it to the museum until nearly 3 I believe. I kinda lost track of time between the traffic and the parking to get there. We were very forgetful about the traffic in this city and this area of Houston and in reference to where we were traveling to, when we left it was nearly 5 and traffic was just beginning to start to get into the thick of things. I could never live in this city of too many people in such a small area, but I do enjoy visiting here as often as I can. I always come home more grateful for the small city I live in. Some of the butterflies you could purchase from the gift shop here were so...
Read moreWe had an awesome time at the butterfly center. We took our time. It started with an area with small enclosures that had millipedes, hissing roaches, spiders, etc. There were two employees in this section. One walked around with us and explained stuff. The other employee had some cases out with animals she pulled out that you could see up close. The main exhibit is multi-level with gorgeous plants and a large variety of butterflies. They even have some butterflies with numbers on them. Take pictures of the numbered butterflies and send your pic for study they are doing. There is a resident iguana and a few birds in the center as well. They have a few bench so you can sit down and really absorb your surroundings. They also have a stand where you can purchase and release a butterfly into the exhibit ($20). The butterfly we released landed on us and was most entertaining as it moved from our friends hair to her face before flying off. On the way out, after passing the cave fish, there is another area that explains how butterflies and other insects are utilized around the world. They have gotten rid of the machine where you can purchase insects to try. In it's place are pictures and information. We spent over 2 hours in the butterfly center. Well worth the $12 for admission. Take some friends a camera and make some...

I had a fantastic time at The Cockerel Butterfly Center! The experience starts with an engaging museum section filled with living bugs displayed in clear cases, along with interactive activities and fun facts that make learning a delight. The addition of two small arcade games was a clever touch, adding an extra layer of fun to the educational experience.
After exploring the museum, you step into the butterfly greenhouse, which is a true gem. The greenhouse is lush with beautiful plants and absolutely teeming with butterflies. Watching these stunning creatures flutter around in their vibrant environment was mesmerizing. Though it was quite hot in the outdoor area due to Houston’s heat, it was well worth it for the incredible sights and experiences.
A special shoutout to the staff—they were incredibly helpful and friendly, enhancing our visit with their warmth and knowledge. Overall, The Cockerel Butterfly Center is a must-visit for anyone interested in nature and butterflies. The blend of educational exhibits, enchanting butterfly displays, and excellent service makes it a memorable outing for all ages. 🌿🦋
