I have gone to 4 different higher education institutions in my life and this one is by far the worst. The HCC Stafford location is slightly better but this Alief location needs some serious work. Primarily, the level of effort committed by most of the staff is below average at best, although you do sometimes get a professor who is genuinely good at their job, there is still a massive amount of pre-written curriculum from AAA education companies that just needlessly complexify the process of studying/assignments/learning (or they try and fail to teach all of it themselves, likely due to a massive workload of grading as an adjunct professor). Even my most liked professor I have taken classes from here used an AI based education software and made so many errors in their in-class teaching that myself and almost every other student just opened our laptops and did our own studying/assignments in class instead of paying attention to the lectures as paying attention to the lectures was simply less valuable than learning the tedious nuance of how to do our required assignments. Then you get the in-person exams which are issued by the departments within the school and they often differ greatly from the curriculum you were learning on these AAA education platforms, further adding confusion to the mix for both students and professors. Most everything you learn will be from your computer so the value of the in-person classes is basically just the professor teaching you how to use these software platforms to do your assignments and submit them properly, but only about 30% or so of in-class time is actually useful either due to a proper explanation by the professor, the ability to instantly ask questions, or participating with other students/taking mandatory attendance. Secondly; you also often have no idea who your professor will be for the semester until the first day of class (3 days after you pass the deadline where you can get a 100% refund for a class) as the student software portal just lists "Staff" instead of a name and you just have to deal with absolutely awful professors whom no one would sign up for if they knew their names before hand. Some of these professors literally have 80-90% 1/5 ratings on RateMyProfessor and should not be employed in education in my opinion, but you are effectively scammed into taking them due to the poor network infrastructure provided by Houston Community College. Lastly; it seems rather rare that the campus is more valuable to be located at versus my apartment because 1; the wifi is often slow/broken, 2; very little effort is made to keep a quiet environment for studying (They literally had a karaoke event blasting in the commons recently, amongst other ridiculous events where someone is yelling in a microphone/playing a piano that can be heard throughout half the campus), and 3; the food here is overpriced and equivalent in quality to frozen dinners so if you actually want some decent food you have to waste time leaving the campus because you would rather not eat slop. Returning to school in Fall 2024 after a few years away made me realize why everyone and their brother are so displeased with the education system in America, I understand that they are underpaid and what not, but the environment feels like a large amount of the staff we are supposed to rely on for an education don't even care any more and they are just there for a paycheck/power trip. Edit: HCC has also now leaked a ton of students' data and we are getting bombarded with phishing attempts. I have changed the rating from 2 to 1 star accordingly. This is ridiculous and I can't wait to get my degree and be done with this mess...
Read moreI used to come here right after high school because it was closest to the Alief area. This school is safe (Throughout my years, I haven't had an issue) and they have a parking garage in case if there are not anymore available parking space. First two rows of parking are staff when you come in via hayes road.
Overall, the staff is good. I haven't had too much of an issue with them that I need to leave a negative review or complaint.
You will see this campus is next to a high school, so expect teenagers and young kids here lol. So that would explain partially why the admissions/acedemic advising room will be long especially during start if a semester and a little in the end.
This campus is also affiliated with UT, which is like a program for high school kids looking into T-STEM fields. While Spring branch is like the science campus. You will see each campus has their own theme sort of and special to that campus.
When I read reviews of complaints with the professors here, I sometimes cringe because as a student, you should have done your research about them and ask former students about who to take for that class. You get professors who also teach from University as UH. Same exact lectures, only difference is the campus and the professor is getting paid more because of teaching an extra class at another campus. All universities have professors who may not be good. You may have one too. But if you have no choice and it fits with your schedule, you just have to sucks it up and tough it out. Or take less class.
You choose to be here, so take an advantage of the resources provided. If you seeked advising one time, seek a second opinion if you feel you aren't satisfied with the first one. Keep in mind there are hundreds of students they have to help with, and sometimes you just end up getting a bad experience the first time. Give it a try with an open mind and evalute the second time. There was a great guy here who walked me through what class I should and generous enough to print it the course I should take and we had a good talk when I first started here. Then the second time when I changed majors along the road, I asked about what classes I should take for that major. And the lady there mentioned it's all on the website, navigated to it and showed me there. Will I give her a bad review for that? No, because she took the time to direct me to it and there is a long line of student behind me probably asking the same question I did. I ended up asking her to print it out for me and she did.
There's a libray at the first floor, and study session rooms there as well. Print pages are 10 cents each and you can scan documents here as well. Computer labs and vending area is on...

Praises to HCC’s Alief campus for hosting the graduation ceremony for the Mattress Mac School of Selling! This was a remarkable event honoring Houston business owners who completed a rigorous six-week course. My co-founder, who is a career coach and keynote speaker, flew in from Kansas City, Kansas, just to be part of this inspiring celebration—testament to the impact and recognition this center brings.
Special thanks to the Glenda and David Regenbaum Center for Entrepreneurship for their support of entrepreneurs. This center creates invaluable opportunities by facilitating networking, providing access to crucial resources, and offering affordable guidance to help business dreams come to life. Sandra, the program director, is incredible—her energy and commitment make this initiative truly inspiring.
The campus itself is absolutely beautiful. For anyone considering a venue outside of the usual hotel scene, this college provides a secluded, professional setting that is ideal for events with class. As a career coach, I can see the value in hosting seminars and webinars here, where the classroom environment adds a fresh dynamic to learning and engagement.
Kudos to HCC for empowering entrepreneurs and supercharging our businesses through events like these. Here’s to future partnerships with the Glenda and David Foundation that continue to uplift and drive Houston’s entrepreneurial spirit!
