My boyfriend and I are traveling from out of town. We were excited to visit this skate park but our experience wasn't that great. I roller blade and my boyfriend skateboards. Unfortunately my boyfriend wasn't able to skate because he didn't have a helmet but I did. I'm fairly new to skating at skate parks so my boyfriend was helping to learn how to drop in. However, every time I was trying to drop in there was a man who rudely told us to move. The most frustrating part was that the places I chose to be weren't in high traffic areas and the skate park was pretty much empty (maybe 7 other people) and he continuously went out of his way to make a comment about how I was in the way when I'm trying to learn how to drop in. Worst part is, this older man and his friends were in the middle of the skate park talking for 15/20 minute stints at a time. The way he came to me was very unnecessary and being the only black person at the skate park at the time, it felt very suspicious and targeted. There were other people at the skate park learning and doing what they need to do but I don't know why this man felt the need to continuously come over to my boyfriend and I. We later learned he was a donor for the skate park so it seems to me this man only wants certain type of people enjoying the skate park and will go out of his way to make people he doesn't want in the park feel uncomfortable. I don't know what this man's name was but look out for a man who's about 5'6/5'7, has long hair that is graying and is probably in...
Read moreNice big park with all ages and skill levels skating. No fee to skate. Must wear a helmet and have chin strap buckled when skating. Two large and deep bowls connected together, one lower down so a drop into the lower one with fairly steep and high sides. Definitely the more advanced level skater bowl. One large kiddie pool with low sides for easier drop in. Out in the middle is an island with low walls for tricks and grinds on rails and a low "bench". Skate out of the kiddie pool into a wide two-sided round closed end , like an open tunnel and ride the side walls or skate across, back and forth to be more like in a bowl. Friendly enviroment with no competitive or agro skaters. Lots of younger kids in the kiddie pool and older beginner skaters as well. There is no "lifeguard" or supervision so watch out for your young kids when it gets busy because it gets a bit hectic with skaters going in all directions. There is a bleacher like sitting area on one side for family and friends and for hanging out. There is a great view looking over Allen Bayou and into the giant buildings of downtown. There is a walking/biking paved trail system just outside of the park with easy access to the trails right by the entrance to...
Read moreThis skatepark blows. You are required to wear a helmet, I'm 23 years old, I've been skating for 11 years, no helmet. I am skating as an adult at my own risk. I think it's reasonable if you're under 18 to wear a helmet but, everyone??? Seriously dude?? I personally cannot street skate with that extra weight on my head, so I definitely will be either going there and breaking the rules and simply taking off the helmet, or I will not skate here at all. Totally sucks because it's a sick park, but stupid as hell rules. Oh and not to mention you can't skate there even if it's the slightest bit wet outside. STUPID RULE once again. Everybody who skates, skates at THEIR OWN RISK. You're going to fall and bust your ass in the hot dry sun either way! The creators of this skatepark OBVIOUSLY never skated in their lives. Lol. 1 star, I've been to way better parks, none of them had stupid...
