Mario at the front desk in the evening is simply amazing! He’s extremely pleasant no matter what time of day it is, he’s willing and able to assist. Shelly at Rosalie’s bar is phenomenal! Her drinks and service are a 10/10. This hotel will definitely be a standing staycation for my husband and I. And it’s a plus that they’re pet friendly!! Hotel is walkable to local parks so our dog has had the time of his life as well.
Update 5/13/2025 My husband and I booked to stay here for my birthday this past weekend since we had a such a great time during our last stay but everything went downhill from check in. We’re Hilton Honors Gold members which makes this suck even a little more. So my husband called days before our stay to get our room set up for my birthday with balloons, a charcuterie board, champagne, etc. the gentleman man he spoke with ensured the room will be ready for early check in at noon, we arrived after 12:30 to check in. The young lady at the front desk said that our room wasn’t ready and she’ll move us to another floor same room (he chose a corner unit). But he was confused as to why the room wasn’t ready when special requests were made, she then informed us that she saw the notes in the system for it to be done and that we had early check in but the person that was in the room was given late checkout.. I don’t know how that works when you ensured someone else with early check in. Well he let them know what time we were heading out as we had an early dinner and she stated that she’ll just have the request moved to our new room. No one showed up.. EVER. We were missing wash cloths in our room, called house keeping multiple times no answer, called the front desk and they said they’ll get in touch with house keeping for someone to bring them up to us. That didn’t happen, I eventually went into the hall and just asked the house keeper myself for wash cloths and her response to me when I asked was, “did you call the front desk”.. I just looked at her with my hand out. The quality of this particular high floor, corner unit was deplorable to say the least. The furniture in the room was damaged, no full length mirror, the shower head were full of lime and calcium build up, it was just a lot. But it was my birthday and I was just trying to make the best of it and treat the room as just a place to sleep while we went out. Now the second day of our stay we walked over to Rosalie for breakfast and we were informed they were closed and they had continental breakfast available. We had things planned around the city so we went there, everything was empty, all the containers were just there empty. I informed a server and he said I’ll be with you in a moment. I just said okay, grabbed a croissant and sat down. After about 5 minuets he came back and asked for our drink order, I asked him what time does Rosalie open and he said that the restaurant is closed until further notice as the owner of the restaurant “gave up on the business”.. I just said okay, my husband and I looked at each other asked for the check to close out and it was $25/pp for cold, below average continental breakfast & on top of all of that the waffle machine was broken and instead of removing it from the area they kept it there for more people to use and potentially cause further damage. Before leave to start our day I informed the front desk that I spilled water on the bed the night before and needed new linen and fresh towels, they asked our room number so I provided it and they said the request was submitted. No one showed up.. I just pulled the duvet off the bed and we slept with just the sheet, it’s a good thing I always travel with my own blanket or else we’d be out of luck. A lot more BE happened but that’s a conversation we’ll be having with Hilton Honors, use this review as your sign to not stay here. The quality has gone down...
Read moreWhen I travel, I usually stay at more affordable options, so when my company put me up in a "fancy" hotel like the C. Baldwin for the weekend, I was excited. But I have only been disappointed. I will say that the employees are nice, but the overall "service" in this review includes their system and record-keeping. No individual was anything less than professional.
I'll start with the most egregious problem: other guests have walked into our room, TWICE. Apparently, they didn't completely finish checking us in the night before and so booked another guest for our room. Despite not finishing to check us in, we were still given a 300$ hold (100 per night) on our card for incidentals. I'm not sure how the hotel can check us in enough to charge us, but not enough to secure our room.
In the afternoon, our room keys stopped working, and we were locked out. At that point, we spoke to guest services and got new cards. Our key cards worked for a time, but we were once again locked out of our room the next day.
We found out that they had placed an additional 200$ hold for incidentals on our account when they "fixed" our check-in status. They did not tell us they were implementing this additional hold - we found out from the bank. Even if the charge is only temporary, it is not okay to make that charge without even notifying the customer.
You would think that, at this point, after being (temporarily) charged 500 dollars, our room should be secured. But, later that afternoon, another guest opened our door. It is one of the most basic and important features of a hotel that myself and my belongings are safe in my room. This is especially important to young women traveling.
If I had a nickel for every time a stranger walked into my hotel room this weekend, I'd have two nickels, which isn't a lot, but it's weird that it happened twice.
The room itself was not what we asked for. When making the reservation, we called to make sure I would have a wheelchair-accessible room. I also called the day before check-in to make sure they could accommodate a late check-in (since my flight was getting in in the evening). When we arrived at the hotel, there were no accessible rooms available. (Side note for my fellow wheelchair users, the carpet in the hallways is one of the worst I've ever had to roll on - so much resistance).
The benefits to our room were comfortable beds and large shampoo/conditioner/body wash bottles. But the beds are platform beds and the mattresses are just sitting on top, so if you lean on the bed, the mattress slides around. And the room lacked many of the amenities that I take for granted at hotels half the price. There was no central lighting - you have to rely on lamps and lighting from the headboard. Rather than a desk and office chair, there is an uncomfortable bench with a back that is only about 5 inches tall and an extremely heavy table. The bench also has a burn mark on it. There is no microwave in the room and the refrigerator is about the size of a shoebox. There were confusing dividers inside of it that had to be removed to fit anything. The sink drains extremely slowly.
At a Best Western or Holiday Inn Express, I'd be able to store and reheat my food, feel secure in my room, and I'd have a complimentary breakfast to boot. Not so at...
Read moreI wasn't really sure how to rate this but you have to read this to understand. The entrance to the hotel and the lobby are just beautiful, just like the pictures; the valet are ALL so polite and professional, I love it! The front desk staff, including the bar staff here were very, very helpful and polite, the text feature was extremely efficient. I'd like to specifically mention Tessa and Rosie, they were super helpful and Rosie gave us a great vegan restaurant option. Which brings me to Rosalie, the actual restaurant.
We did the breakfast brunch day two and EVERYTHING was cold, the initial gentleman that assisted us was fine, I think he got irritated when we asked if he could heat our food a little, but never-the-less polite. The food was out with no sternos lite, EVERYTHING was cold that my daughter tried to eat. There was a man, Johnny is his name i later found out, that asked the table to our immediate left and right how their meals were, if the needed any assistance or anything, bought them their checks (we were there way before them), and said a hardy goodbye when they left. We never got a check and no one, Johnny, never stopped at our table so we could pay or put it on our room. We headed toward the check in to see if we could pay there and as soon as we were asking Rosie if we could pay there he comes running out saying we didn't pay. We sat there all of 45 minutes and he never acknowledged us no suddenly he sees us, interesting, running after us like we were trying to "dine & dash". We told the lady at the desk, Rosie, what happened and she politely said something to him; he claimed he talked to us and it was a complete lie. For the rest of our visit, which isn't over by the way, he made a sorry attempt to grumble a hello or force a smile on his face, professional I guest, um.
We were ordering from the in room dining menu and well, we didn't get warm food then either, NOT ONCE, and we ordered from them several times, not because we wanted to but we were eventually forced to because of the snow "storm". Then they ran out of food and only had burgers, not the hotels fault for sure because Houston was paralyzed due to the snow. I am not exaggerating cold every time, except if we ordered french fries those were not cold.
So, let's talk about the sheets and towels. Stains, rips, and tears. I requested sheets while we had no housekeeping service so I could change the sheets on the beds, no problem doing that at all. When i pulled the covers back I was just like really, a Curio? Then changing the sheets, again stains and small holes and the comforter was, umph, umph, umph. Then the towel had stains on the and they were unraveling on the edges (again I am speaking past tense although right now I am still here). If I had an option I would move, but due to my daughters condition I can't move her.The bathtub is badly chipped and stained.
No refrigerator, no microwave....on the whole property. To order room service, there's a $10 delivery fee and a 25% gratuity, and cold food. This is a Curio....I would only stay here again...
