Gilbert, the legend, the myth, just turned 90 years old last month. He's older than my grandparents, yet he's still in good shape with steady hands and a clear, sharp mind. He's been cutting people's hair since he was 25 years old, which was before my parents were even born. He still uses an old-style method to cut hair. The scissors are the traditional "cha-ching, cha-ching" type. He shaves the borderlines of the sides and the back of your hairline with shaving foam. The haircut ends with a head massage. He charges $20 for a haircut. I'm satisfied with my result. It's really a great experience. Other reviewers are right. Go get a haircut from him while he's still available.

Terrible. I told the barber that I brush my hair forward but he tried to tell me that I needed to brush it back. He also gave me a style that made me look 15 years older so I had to go to another barber immediately after leaving his shop. He tried explaining to me how my hair acts, since it's a little curly, as if I haven't had my hair my entire life and know how my hair acts. Bottom line is he didn't know what to do with my hair and was frustrated and blaming me for him not knowing what to do.

I tried being calm and clearly communicating what I wanted but he started to become confrontational and didn't want to give me what I wanted. He wanted me to suppress my own judgement of how i like to wear my hair and submit to the haircut that he would be able to give me.

He seemed like a nice guy but it ended up being a bad experience. I cannot recommend...

The most authentic, old-school barber shop experience in Houston. I came for a haircut and left with life experience. You walk into Mr. Gabriel's shop and you feel like you have been transported back in time. There are Old WW2 books and antique photos on the walls. Mr. Gabriel has exquisite technique and vast knowledge of his craft. If you have hair, you need to experience this place. Can't wait for my hair to grow back so I can return for...
