I am amending the 5 star review written last year below. I've been 5 times in the last year and all 5 times my order is WRONG. $50, $75, $100 dollars a pop and it's always wrong. I don't go at times that are overly busy nor when you may be understaffed. I have don't have language problems and get it repeated back twice to ensure there is no misunderstanding. And I'm not making some complicated order, just normal stuff.
I go to Los Tios all the time down the street, 100% right every time. I go to McDonald's all the time down the street for breakfast, 100% right every time. My tea is always 50-50 and if I ask for butter and strawberry jelly it's in there for $6. What is your problem? What are you on? I was ordering for my neighbors. She fell and got hurt. Her son has terminal brain cancer. The husband's brother just died. I opened those bags and not enough sauce to brush your teeth with. Where are the pickles and onions? She said it comes with everything. Glad I didn't ask for jalapenos. When the inside was open with the fixings bar I could make sure it's going to have what I want for condiments. I don't need or want apologies, or discounts. I want you to get it right and that is a management issue not a worker thing. The FOOD is fantastic. But no more $100 orders from me if I have to be disappointed every single time. The unreliability isn't worth the price any more. It's almost like somebody is specializing in getting it wrong on purpose. Glad I didn't even ask for plasticware nor napkins, those weren't in there either? "Comes with everything", she said. It's a to go order, give me a break! Aren't forks and napkins something most people need to eat BBQ and sides out of a box? In my 20+ years of ordering to go at Pappasito's it has never been wrong, ever. You can go to Jack in the Box and get better service than Papas BBQ on S. Gessner.
Below is what I wrote last year:
I just moved across Houston recently and the smell from this Pappas BBQ just kills me. I can smell it 2 blocks away at my house, love it. Took me a few days for my nose to track it down. The coleslaw is great, not too sweet and not wet. Good fast friendly service, clean. Very fresh condiments here which at my old Pappas BBQ was hit and miss sometimes on South Main St. The only thing I noticed was that my brisket got dry quickly so I'm bringing a ziplock next time to put it in to go and it had just come out of the smoker and was super fresh. The flavor of that brisket is awesome the sauce is perfect, not too sweet, not too spicy. I know when it comes to sauce it is hard to please everybody. One other small thing I did notice and it could just be me the meat seemed very very salty this time. However I've been on some medications that could be affecting my taste buds/sensitivity to salt. I'm glad to know that when my BBQ craving strikes I have a great place practically across the street within walking distance. We have Rio Ranch down the street also, an upscale place but I tried it and wasn't overly impressed with the...
Read moreI am so done with this location. They alwsys seem to have chicken issues which is so frustrating because they sell bbq! This visit i came in wanting a dark chicken meal, I do not eat white meat. I asked the guy taking my order do they have a leg quarter meal, he says no they just sell half a chicken, I clarified to make sure i understood that i could not putchase a keg quarter meal and he confirmed no. This makes no sense to me because everyone eats different cuts of chicken and a half a chicken is a lot of food to be forced to order. I asked to speak to the manager, her name is Sheniqua. She was useles, lacked customer service, and wasn't friendly at all. She had no empathy to my concern and frustration. When i asked why can't i just purchase a leg quarter meal, hell I would have been ok with purchasing two leg quarters if they just insisted on selling half a chicken, she literally said if I cut you a leg quarter, "What am I supposed to do with the other piece of chicken?" That took me out. Well duh manager sell the other piece of chicken! It's white meat and it world have easily sold. She said at this specific location they do not separate the chicken, it's the stupidest thing ever. Papas is forcing us to have to purchase a whole half chicken and won't even allow u to choose white or dark. The lack of customer service received each time I have visited this Westheimer and Gessner location explains why the restaurant is always empty when I visit. Never will make this mistake again. Do better by your customers management. I did not get to eat chicken this day, I settled for a plain baked potato since I had someone else...
Read moreDay 1- My family and I attempted to eat here but had to pack up our food and take it home because it was cold. You can tell that if the food was hot it wold be really good because you can taste the flavor through the coldness. I didn't care for the sweet BBQ sauce- doesn't taste sweet too me and has a hint of beer taste to it. The mustard sauce was pretty okay. Other family members enjoyed that one.
Day 2- We've warmed our food and it was soooo good. The bread and brisket complimented each other so well. Yummy!!!!! If only we could've enjoyed our food inside the restaurant the same way we did at home. We were able to eat the sides, as they were hot and treated delicious (Mac n Cheese, Dirty rice and Baked potato) but not the meats ( pork/beef ribs, brisket, and sausage). We ordered one kids meal (chicken tenders) which was hot and was cooked to order, so that was a plus. I plan to return but I'll get my food the day before I actually want it, since I know we'll have to re-heat it. My husband said he went a few months ago with his job and it was the samething, very cool meats.
I didn't return because it was a lot of meat to return and nothing was actually wrong with the meats, they just was cold. Thank goodness i was not starving but we did drive 40 mins for a dinner that we couldn't fully eat. I felt if I returned it, it would be the same temp because they had just cut the meat before placing it on our plates- so the entire slab of rib or brisket was cold. I'm not sure how they can keep the meat warm without dying out the meat but I sure hope they can...
