I'm giving it four stars, which is high in terms of the experience you will have. The seats are old and some may view them as uncomfortable. The theaters are also old and need quite a bit of maintenance. Some ceilings are missing tiles, and it is obvious the business has struggled in the post-pandemic era. The screens and sound systems are not up to date. These facts are made in comparison to other theaters with high-tech seats, better screens and sound, and maintained theaters. If we were only to compare these things, this theater would only have one star.
The reason I am giving it four stars is the actual movie-going experience. It is of a quality one would expect twenty years ago. I have rarely been pulled out of the movie-going experience. The other patrons are very polite, and not rude. If you go to an early show, there may be kids enjoying the film, but I have never had a negative experience with crying babies or out of control children. It is very easy to simply escape into the movie screen and enjoy the movie. Teenagers and patrons have not been a problem as I have experienced at other theaters. The customers are just as friendly as the staff.
The absolute best thing about this theater is the price and the staff. The staff is very friendly, and several know me by name. They deserve five stars.
The prices are the best I have seen in my lifetime. The movies are not older releases like one would expect at a cheap theater or a dollar theater, but the theater stays up to date with the most recent hits. I am not a fan of 3D, but the theater will offer these movies when available. The ticket prices are great, but the concession prices are better. I know several that live in Huntsville that will just go buy concessions, and not even see a movie. The drinks are not name-brand, but actually better than name-brand. This theater is a local, small business that supports other local, small businesses. This is not a big-chain movie theater, but the prices and friendliness are evident.
Yes, they are cash only. The ATM does charge $4, plus whatever your bank may charge. But this does not in any way negate the price effect of the theater. I'm not going to lie, when I read negative reviews that give negativity about cash only, it makes me cringe. This is a simple business that requires a simple method of payment. I won't complain about small businesses requiring cash. This is not Disney World. The prices show that. Five Stars for the price of the experience.
If you simply want to enjoy a movie and don't need fancy recliners or the most up-to-date sound system, please enjoy this theater. A simple movie-going experience, for more than reasonable prices and an incredibly friendly staff. I really enjoy having this...
Read moreThe theater itself is fine. It’s older but has good ticket and concession prices.
The low rating is for the discourteous patrons. For every new release film we’ve seen on or near opening weekend, other patrons have: talked through the whole film, allowed their children to run around and play while the parents flat out ignore them, brought preschoolers, toddlers, and babies into very inappropriate films (this past weekend, the family who sat beside us included a toddler still drinking milk from a bottle and a preschooler for the prime-time showing of IT Chapter 2), and are just rude and don’t care that they’re bothering or disrupting anyone else’s experience.
The young people working there seem to be afraid to confront this rudeness and may come into the theater to glare at the most offensive ones but don’t actually say anything to them. The 1 exception we’ve seen to this was the family who sat beside us with a 2 year old for Alien:Covenant and staff did ask them to leave because that poor baby couldn’t stop crying in the dark theater even though they kept threatening to spank/beat her.
We already don’t see the films we care most about actually hearing at this theater - Star Wars, The Avengers franchises, etc - preferring theaters in The Woodlands. Even on opening night in a packed stadium theater in The Woodlands, we haven’t experienced loud, obnoxious patrons who don’t control their children or people bringing their babies to obviously inappropriate films.
If you want to wait a few weeks for the popularity of new films to die down or go to the very first showing of the day of older films, then this is usually how we avoid the...
Read moreReally cheap ticket prices...but you get what you paid for. I am a college student and I love being able to watch movies at such a low price especially when I'm on a tight budget. Although the cheap tickets are satisfying, my movie experience generally is unenjoyable by various annoyances when I go to this movie theater. For instance, I don't understand why the theater won't invest in letting customers pay with their credit/debit cards. I honestly think they might get more money and more customers through this. Not only that I think it would speed up the lines at box office and honestly I keeps me from having to spend $3 dollars at a ATM. Maybe I'm just being picky but it would sure help to have that. I think my biggest gripe with the theater is the sound. Every time I watched a movie I had to ask the consessionist if they could tell the projectionist to turn up the volume. I don't think the theater's surround sound in it movies is working. It always sounded like the front speakers were the only speakers that were being used and sometimes you could barely get out what the characters were even saying. For a $3/$5 movie though, you get what you paid for. Luckily, I think the theater is making improvements in these areas. The last movie I saw there was The Worlds End which was in digital. I don't remember having any volume issues either which made for a much better experience. All in all, I believe for $3-$5 its not THAT bad of a theater and with the theater transitioning to all digital and even having 3D movies for the same price of matinée tickets at The Grande, its probably your best available option for...
