Nickel Plate Beach Review: A Hidden Gem on Lake Erie
Nickel Plate Beach is my absolute favorite beach getaway! It's impeccably clean, and while there's a $6 parking fee, the $40 seasonal pass is a steal, especially since it comes with a BOGO ice cream coupon for the local shop with every visit – a sweet treat after a day in the sun!
The beach offers something for everyone. There's a volleyball court and a playground to keep the kids entertained, and the rental shop is a treasure trove of fun, from inflatable toys to paddleboards and kayaks. The shallow water near the shore is perfect for little ones to splash around, but do be mindful of rip tide warnings on certain days.
One of my favorite things about Nickel Plate is the pier. It's a lovely walk, but be careful as the rocks can get uneven further down. If you're up for the adventure and have good balance, you'll be rewarded with a secluded beach area perfect for beachcombing. I've found some amazing stones and sea glass there!
For those picture-perfect moments, there's an adorable oversized chair and sign, and the park-like setting with grassy areas, a pavilion with grills and picnic tables, and showers make it a great spot for a family picnic or a day with friends.
The restrooms are porta-potties, which can be a bit inconvenient, but they're kept cleaner than most I've encountered at other beaches. The handicap-accessible porta-potty offers more space for those who need it.
Overall, Nickel Plate Beach is a fantastic destination. It's clean, family-friendly, and offers a variety of activities both on and off the sand. If you're looking for a relaxing beach day with plenty of fun options, I highly recommend...
Read moreDefinitely worth the drive! They keep the sand clean which was great for the kids (and my) feet unlike a lot of other Erie beaches we’ve visited. The first couple feet of water do have some debris but once you get past there it turns into all sand again. The swimming area is not very deep at all, maybe waist deep out at its highest by the end of the swimming area so it’s great for the kids. There’s also several photo op spots, portapotties, outdoor showers, and rentals. Be aware there is a cash only $6 parking fee, but it also comes with a coupon for a free ice cream at a local spot! We really enjoyed our visit and...
