Hutchinson Public Library — Attraction in Hutchinson

Edited from a 5 star rating:: I am frustrated with the Hutchinson Library’s hold system and overall service. Hold times are excessively long, and the computer systems are flawed—often deleting or failing to register holds entirely. When glitches occur, all patrons can do is leave a message for a manager, who rarely calls back.

I have raised multiple complaints about these long wait times, only to be told that funding is insufficient to provide additional support. If this is the case, I strongly urge the library’s funding department to reevaluate priorities and allocate resources to services that directly benefit the community, rather than promotional events that do not address the persistent problems patrons face.

The library should be a resource for the community, not a source of frustration due to broken systems. I will be more than happy to change my rating when this changes. Our public resource buildings should be dedicated to providing efficient and timely resources instead of persistent inconvenience.

UPDATE: I want to thank you for personally calling back and addressing this situation—your communication and timely assistance are truly appreciated, which is unfortunately not the norm. However, resolving this particular hold glitch does not address the underlying system errors or the allocation of funds to programs that directly benefit the community. I strongly encourage the board to consider addressing these larger issues so that resources can be directed toward programs that meet significant community needs, rather than only fixing individual system glitches. I'm keeping my current review where it is for now until the board chooses to address the needs of the community more...

I really like this library! Its clean, staff are great but the ill mannered young teenager girls that arrived with all the screaming and fowl language today was an extremely ridiculous experience for me and both the kids I had with me! The sexual discussion..... I just picked up the kids and walked away. But I did stop and tell a staff how appalled I was that no one intervened. I wasnt mad at the staff because I can understand with today's society noone wants to approach another parent kids! I just had to leave before I said something really disrespectful to these kids. I would love to record them...and play it back to they're parents! But God forbid if it was a man in here disrespecting kids. Or young boys disrespecting you g girls! That would be so publicized! These fowl mouth girls were not reading nor working on anything. They specifically came to rock on the kiddie rockers and behave like...

A great place to find books, film and other media. Good place to get cheap access to printers, computers, basic programs like Word and Excel and the internet for job searches or just to enjoy yourself. Don't forget your headphones in the computer lab! Very helpful and nice staff. Great place for summer kid activities and has a great youth and young adult sections for the kids.
