We usually like to stay at Embassy suites since we have kids and like the included breakfast. I usually like the included happy hour! So this occasion we decided to get the "presidential suite".
The good: front desk was very nice, lady who checked us in was very nice and reviewed all information about the facilities etc with us. The room was on the 10th floor and was a great size (two large, king sized beds, one in each room); two bathrooms and a local room with dining area and splash bar and microwave etc. The suite had three TVs. The room had fair views being 10 stories up. We liked the breakfast although you had to get there before 9am. We like the hotel was quite central to where we were going to be and near the 405 freeway.
The not so good: We did splash out on the room so were expecting the room to be really up to date and without any issues - so were surprised to find it was in desperate need of updating. In a few places some of the grout was coming off, the taps were not straight in the bathrooms and in one of the showers the tap was all wobblily that I thought it would fall off if I twisted too hard. The water stream/pressure from the showers head was not good. Some of the curtains had stains. The carpet looked like it should be replaced as should most of the furniture ... it felt like I was back in the 1990's. One of the bathroom door handles was loose and would not lock. The A/C cover on one of the units was coming off and missing a screw. Otherwise the rooms were overall fairly clean but not what I expected for the price I paid (about $550 per night), I felt for calling it "Presidential" it should be at a higher level even though the hotel is 3 star. I also would have thought a manager or someone who does quality would be regularly checking rooms for basic maintenance but it does not seem so.
The parking structure is good and felt secure but be aware it's a different building that you have to walk back to the main hotel, there is even some stairs you have to go up which is painful especially if you have many bags (as we did). Also parking is not included which is typical for most hotels ... although you do feel it may have been included when you are getting one of the more expensive rooms so that is $30 per day. Finally, the other not so good for me was that for the happy hour (which I only used one night out for a three night stay) where you can get two drinks per evening, I found out that the draught beer was only half a pint and that cocktails were an extra $2. I do not recall this the last time I had stayed at Embassy suites (pre-covid).
So, overall I still like Embassy suites ... but I do not feel I would now spend the extra money for a better room as it was not as good as I hoped and I did feel a little duped by the happy hour to be charged a few buck for a cocktail.
In the past with Embassy I had not really felt like I was staying in a 3 star hotel but...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreWe have been staying here for six weeks and will be here an addition 10 days. I canāt put in words how wonderful all the staff have been towards us . We live out of State and came for Hoag Hospital- cardiac unit. My husband had open heart surgery and the recovery has been much longer than expected . When we needed to extend our stay an additional 26 days they took care of it immediately. First , Jonathan is the person that contacted us when we were shopping for long term stay . He was extremely accommodating snd s pleasure to work with . Went out of his way for us . A big thank you ! Then I need to mention Leticia , the Housekeeper on our floor . Oh my gosh - she was fantastic . She had a helper named Roberto and the two of them would stop me to ask if I needed anything or did I want my roomed cleaned . We bought a large trash can and Roberto would take the trash for us . When they cleaned , they came in and dud everything including new linen snd extra extra towels . They worked quickly knowing my husband was recovering and didnāt have much energy to stay in the living room area . Amir , the van driver saw me with my walker and when I asked where was the closest restaurant he said ā let me take you ā . How kind , but I declined because I needed to walk as I was spending hours sitting at the hospital for 14 days . When Amir would see me he never failed to ask how my husband was recovering and say something positive. In the restaurant Roberto , Ricardo (Rickie) , Liz , the Bartender, Noel ⦠all fantastic human beings ready to serve you . All were Johnny on the spot . Even when I returned my meal because it was too salty they took care of it with a smile . I didnāt give the hotel 5 star for two reasons . Although the front desk are polite and always greet you with a smile , I called down several times snd no one answered the phone . Twice I called down asking them to notify me once when a luggage carrier was available ( there were none up front when I returned with my laundry ) and the second time to notify me when the elevators were working as they were shut down . The front desk never called to inform me on either event . I was irritate when 2 hours later I went down and there were 4 luggage carriers sitting upfront . Iām sure I have failed to mentioned other staff that were polite and helpful during a very stressful time for us . Thank you to everyone at Embassy Suites. Our daughter lives in Newport Beach and we come a couple of times a year , especially during the holidays - and this will be the only place we will stay . We will be loyal customers. ...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreWe booked our stay thru hotels.com and asked for an extra night stand for our room since my partner does dyalisis daily. We called after booking online and waited and hr until we spoke to someone on the phone and spoke to them about our nightstand and late check out to make sure we had the time for him to finish his dyalisis treatment and get out. The person we spoke to on the phone was super helpful. We show up on the day (sunday) at 4 and immediately one of the 2 keycards didn't work and the room was dirty. I took my shoes off and the carpet had black sticky spot all over the room. I went to sit on the vanity and the bench and vanity had something sticky and yellow all over it. The bathroom fan didn't work and the outside sink was clogged. And they hadn't supplied the extra nightstand. We immediately call the desk to let them know and the guy says he'll be up in 5 mins. This was at 4:10, we told him we had an event to be at at 5. We wait. At 5 we call him again and then 10 minutes later he shows up. He takes pictures and tells us he's going to give us a new room. We tell him we need to go and are already running late and remind him of the table or nightstand. 15 min later he gives us a new room. Right in front of the elevators. At that point we are running late and again no nightstand. He says he will bring one up himself by 8 pm . We tell him we won't be there and he says he will bring it. We leave without inspecting the room since we are late. We get back to the room at 10:30 and my partner at this point has to connect asap to stay on schedule. No nightstand. At this point we don't have time to waste waiting for them . We had to move the heavy vanity in order for us to have somewhere to put his dyalisis machine . The moment we go to the bathroom we notice the door doesn't close all the way and the fan doesn't work either. There was 3 of us so it was very awkward. The pull out couch is not only ratty and old it has only a sheet on it. And as soon as we pull off the sheet from our bed there's hair on the sheets. So grossed out. Our stay was horrible. Dirty , not helpful and the elevator noises didn't let us sleep even if we tried . We were incredibly disappointed as we've stayed at this name hotel before and had wonderful experiences. This one was horrid. Do not recommend at all. And also they say breakfast is included and when we got there the manager said he doesn't like dealing with it so there was not going to be any available. This stay could not have been any worse . Not up to code with cleanliness at all and customer service was...
