I have been taking my 2000 Softail in for 5000 mile services since I’ve owed it. It costs me a lot of extra dollars to do that, but the bike is in great shape and I want the best for it. But maybe the service at OC Harley Davidson isn’t the best anymore.
In my 20,000 service this week, I knew I was going to get hit with the standard $640 bill. I wanted the assurance of good experienced and professional mechanics so I took it in for service and in addition I asked them to include an engine guard with highway pegs and helmet locks ($600+) and additional wiring for an auxiliary charger for my iPhone ($200+). The total will be over $1500. As usual I get a phone call in 3-4 hours suggesting additional work including a new front tire ($300+ to replace the tire OC Harley put on less than 5000 miles earlier, they said “I must have been riding underinflated” which I was not), new case seals ($450+ as OC Harley said the bike might start leaking on my garage floor soon), and a new battery ($150+ as OC Harley said my old battery had marginal cranking power). Well, I told them to go ahead with the new tire and a new battery. Now my 20,000 checkup is a bit over $2000 with tax.
Okay, it gets worse, yes it goes downhill fast.
The next day I get this call from OC Harley saying that I needed new spokes and hub. My front alum spokes and hub were corroded and, to make matters worse, the mechanic broke a spoke by attempting to tighten it. When I asked why he was trying to fix something that didn’t need fixing, the reply was that their standard practice is to adjust the spokes so it runs smoother. When I mentioned that I was not having problems with that, he indicated that OC Harley likes to examine everything in their service. Long story short, OC Harley now advised me I needed to replace all spokes ($400+). Yes, instead of replacing the one they broke, they want me to ante up for the whole job that they “uncovered” (created). I resisted and said I could not afford the $400+ they wanted nor could I justify having to pay for something they broke; “why don’t you just replace the spoke you broke?”After some discussion, OC Harley called back and said they had already put the front tire on and the bike is ready to pick up. I asked what they did about the broken spoke; they said “nothing, the bike should ride okay without it.”
Attempting to hold my temper as best as I could, I told the counter clerk that I did not want to take the bike with a broken spoke nor did I think it was fair that I had to do so. I suggested I can offer to pay for one spoke, a $10 part, but OC Harley should install it without charge. Is that too much to ask when you are paying over $2000 for a service visit?
I asked OC Harley Service clerk to review this with management (on 9/11/13) and give me a call back. So far I have not heard back and they still...
Read moreBought a used 2009 Electra glide classic from this place in December of 2015. Damn good thing I bought the 3 year warranty! Since then, it has been in not once, not twice, not three times but FIVE TIMES for major transmission work! I had only had the bike for 3 months when I took it in the first time for transmission work. They told me they did a light rebuild. One month later I was back in there for shifting problems. Was told that my clutch plate was burnt. Interesting. How did I go from having a perfectly okay clutch plate (assuming they inspected it when they did their "light rebuild) to it being completely burnt one month later? In 2018 I had the bike in three times for the transmission. Just before the time I have it in there now as I'm writing this, was in November when I was told that they were tired of messing with it and was just going to put in a brand new out of the box transmission. One month later just last month in December, the bike is slipping out of 3rd gear so I take it back on the 22nd of December knowing that my warranty is going to expire on the 27th. Over a week goes by and I hear nothing. A week later I called him to be told that my transmission case is going bad. How does a brand-new out-of-the-box transmission case go bad in one month? I posted this question to them and they told me they did not put a brand new transmission in it that they had once again rebuilt it to which I asked them: "Ok, so how did my transmission case go from being perfectly okay last month to needing to be replaced this month?" (again this is assuming they were actually inspecting and looking at everything they should have been looking at when they fdbuilt it this last time) of course I did not get a good answer. Knowing that my warranty was expiring, I asked him about maybe trading this bike in for something newer and was hoping that with all of the issues I've had with this bike that they had sold me and never fixed correctly that they might actually bend over backwards to get me into a bike. I explained to them that I was a disabled veteran and on a fixed income and could not afford much of a down payment if any at all. they could not get me into anything despite the fact that I have good credit. So I am still waiting as of this day going on 3 weeks to find out what happens when I get my bike back this time. Seeing as I have no warranty anymore I suppose I'll just have to ride it till the wheels fall off. I have had many other problems with this bike that have still not been fixed. I would think given how ridiculous my experience has been with their service that they would want to make it right. Apparently that's...
Read moreI have only been to this dealership a few times and every time due to an emergency or a time crunch. My first and second interactions were for flat tires and although I had a tire plan, OC Harley did not accept it(even though I bought it from another Harley dealership) and was almost impossible to work with...all they had to do was call the insurance company to confirm it was in their shop and it took multiple phone calls and near begging for them to do so. They also ended up keeping my bike almost a week past what they had originally told me. The last time was for a 20k service and I mentioned to them that I needed to get some keys made as well as a new taillight that had burned out which they were adding to the work order. There was another customer that came in for a pick up that everybody knew by name and they jumped to their feet to take care of them while I sat their waiting to finish my drop off. When I picked up my bike, the taillight was still out which makes me question if they even serviced the bike since that is such a basic item that should have been caught when they were doing their checklist, especially since this is a safety item. When I called them about it they were very cordial and apologetic but with no proof that my bike was even touched while it was in the shop, I am just left hoping it was serviced and with zero trust in their service team. I got a call from a service manager which was much appreciated but after I told about my interaction there was no sort of follow up except he said I could bring the bike in to get a new light and that he would talk to his team. I have had nothing but excellent interactions with every Harley dealership I have been to and have always felt welcomed in except at OC Harley and I cannot understand what could be the difference, nor can I understand how I have had such a different experience than the other reviews I've read for this location. Needless to say I would never step foot in this place again or recommend it and would rather tow my bike to another county than be kicked to the...
