I went to Baylor yesterday as I was informed by my OBGYN to do so for contractions at 15 weeks pregnant. I walked into the ER thinking that they were going to direct me to Labor and Delivery as my doctor instructed me to go. The RN (receptionist) that checked me in called L&D however was notified that because I was not 20 weeks, I should be seen in the ER. I was disappointed, but of course complied. I was in the ER from 12:30pm- 5:30pm, which was expected. I told all medical professionals every symptom that I was having as requested by each person. Everything was routine and pleasant until after my sonogram results. The sonographer was kind and patient and answered all of my questions. The PA came in and notified me that an OBGYN affiliated with my dr’s office would come in the discuss my sono results. 2 hrs later the PA comes in and says the Obgyn saw my sono and determined that everything was okay and proceeded to discharge me. I asked the PA if the OBGYN was willing to see me because I was still having contractions. She said “No”. I asked her were there any medications that I could take to stop the contractions, again she said “No”. She proceeded to give me a prescription for antibiotic and said she would be back to discharge me. She was not. It was another nurse that discharged me. Fast forward to the next morning. No contractions but I was profusely bleeding. I had a decision to make, do I go back to Baylor-Irving. The same hospital that gave me bad customer services from the receptionist on. I decided to go back because they have all my records and my actual OBGYN is wonderful but still associated with Baylor-Irving. I went to L&D. They stated that I had to go to the ER as I did the day before. Although I explained to L&D that I was bleeding and 15 weeks, there was no offer for a wheelchair to go the distance to the ER. I walked with my husband. Bleeding the entire way. When I got to the ER, there was one elderly couple ahead of me and my husband. They had an appointment in radiology. The same receptionist (RN) from the day before took all of their information and then rudely instructed them to go to the front of the hospital to check in. The couple was clueless, confused and asked where the main entrance was. The receptionist again, abrasively said “There to the left.” At this time, I was passing the receptionist to sit because I WAS BLEEDING. She rudely asked for my name and DOB. I gave her the information and reminded her that I was there the day before and she simply said, “You have to go stand over there!”. And pointed to the first 6 ft marker. My husband said that he would stand there for me before we checked in. When we went back for examination, I was emotionally exhausted. The new PA asked me if I was there yesterday. I confirmed I was. Sweetly he asked about what was going on. In tears, I tired. My husband had to explained. The PA asked if I understood my diagnosis from the night before. I told him what I was told. He apologized and confirmed that there was more to my diagnosis (which was not explained). He suggest I get another sono. I did and it was determined that I had a condition that would explain the bleeding. A ER doctor came in and patiently explained what was going on as well, ensured us that our baby looked great for the time being. He gave us such an ease of mind. I gave this hospital a one star rating because, YOU CARED NOTHING ABOUT ME OR MY UNBORN CHILD, initially. From the receptionist, to the first PA, to the OBGYN on call who thought that it was okay to not see me based on a sonogram alone, as well as L&D nurse that simply offered no help, YOU WERE INSENSITIVE and simply just did your job like heartless robots. There was not one extra millimeter of effort given the first day I went to the ER. There was no compassion AT ALL. I work in social services myself. I know that working with people is hard BUT if you don’t feel like doing it, don’t come in that day or find a complete new profession. One that you do not have to directly deal with people, compassion and...
Read moreI first went to the ER at Baylor, Scott and White on Thursday (Oct 18, 2025) complaining of severe stomach pains and my hernia moving further downward, making walking and other basic things virtually impossible. After 6 hours, one CT scan, and being pretty much ignored, I was never admitted, and the "doctor" who had no white coat on (just a grey Polo shirt that made him look like either an ambulance driver, or the day manager at AutoZone) told me, "eh, didn't see anything." He was rude, dismissive, wouldn't let me speak, talked over me constantly and left me walking out of the ER feeling dumb, confused and a waster of HIS time. Three days later, the hernia had gotten worse and so had my moans and yells everytime I tried to move. Called an ambulance to take me back to Baylor, Scott and White and received better care. I was admitted for the entire week, was given the IV equivalent of Water pills to get as much fluid off of me, was told I have type 2 diabetes (this had been going on for 5 years and no one said anything to me about it). The doctors, nurses, and techs during the day were incredible! I cannot praise them enough and with I had committed their names to memory, as they all deserve high praise. The nigh crew left much to be desired. One night, I didn't get any medicine at all because they were off doing something else. Another night, I woke up to feeling someone put a CPAP machine on my face with cold air blasting through it. Scared the hell out of me. The female tech left and the CPAP mask stayed on my face for a total of 1 minute. She asked about putting it back one later and I said, "no. It's a medieval torture device the way you handle it.". Some nights, some techs were courteous of me sleeping and would gently wake me up just enough to get my vitals (with just enough light for them to do an accurate job), while others exploded in to the room as loud as could be, turning all the lights on and being insanely rude. One tech actually yelled, "HELLO!" in my face when she saw I was still asleep. Due to the water pills, I had to urinate constantly and while many tech and nurses were very good about emptying the bottles and keeping me supplied with urine bottles ready to go. One tech refused and put the blame on me. One bottle had fallen and spilled on the floor while I was asleep and instead of cleaning things up, she claimed asking for help and she didn't want to keep cleaning spills here and there throughout the night. The same tech also lied and claimed I "refused" to put the EKG monitor back on when I never said anything like that at all. Fummi and Sharisha (if I got their names correctly) were the two worst and have no business working in the career field they're ok if they can't be more understanding and less selfish. Also, if I mention that I am not interested in a certain kind of medical procedure and prefer another one, or one form of treatment over another, I don't want to be spoken down to as if I'm a dumb child. I have and am capable of doing my own research and while I may be ignorant on some things, I'm somewhat knowledgeable on others. Also, to the rude techs, don't lie about how many times I've gone for a walk to get out of the hospital room and get some exercise...and don't lie about the number of times you've claimed to see me at the vending machines. Just don't. This may be a sensitive subject for some, but after years of tippy towing around, I find myself being more and more blunt. Please hire people who are intelligent and possess compassion for their fellow man. Merit and brains over false equalilty, diversity and political check...
Read moreI recently visited Baylor Scott & White Medical Center in Irving and had a very mixed experience. While the overall facility and most of the staff were absolutely wonderful and compassionate, my interaction with Dr. Andrew MacDonald was extremely disappointing and upsetting.
Dr. MacDonald made me feel completely unheard and dismissed. I came in unable to walk for two weeks, in a serious condition , and instead of offering support or further investigation, he repeatedly told me I was exaggerating. He constantly tried to prove himself right instead of listening to me as a patient. He even went as far as making comparisons to elderly people being able to walk and implying that I should be fine too which isn’t just irrelevant but extremely insulating. He simply did not want to run any tests and clearly just wanted me to leave even though I had previously been told by a doctor at the same hospital I most likely have nerve damage. All he did was made me feel like I was delusional for even being there—when in reality, who wants to be in the ER unless it’s serious? His lack of empathy and professionalism made me feel belittled and uncomfortable throughout the entire interaction. It was truly one of the worst experiences I’ve had with a doctor.
Thankfully, the rest of the staff really made up for his behavior. Everyone else I encountered was kind, attentive, and helpful. A special shoutout to the night supervisor, who was incredibly sweet—she personally wheeled me out to my car and made sure I was okay before I left. Her kindness meant a lot during such a frustrating and painful experience.
Because of the amazing staff (minus Dr. MacDonald), I’m giving this place more than one star. But I really hope they address the way he treats patients—it’s unacceptable.Everyone deserves to be listened to and treated with basic respect—especially in a vulnerable moment like...
