irving Electronics — Attraction in Irving

I found Irving Electronics while searching Google for a place that would buy an older 46" Samsung LED ('08 model). I thought to gave it a try and was really pleased with the experience!

I called Gary and was greeted properly with the name of the store. I explained my situation in that I was trying to make some room and was wanting to try and sell this TV as I had a new one. (With our current living arrangements of having to take in my ailing brother and converting the living room into a medical bedroom, having anything extra right now just isn't viable.) He asked what condition the TV was in, if it was in working order, and what brand and model it was. I explained to him in full detail everything I knew but did not have the model number on me, so I asked if he could give me a few minutes to get that for him. He said that's not a problem and to just call back with it as soon as I could get to it. After a few minutes,

I did call back and provided the model number. He asked me what I was looking to get out of it, so I proceeded to throw a number out there not really knowing where to start. We ended up meeting a little lower, which was fine. I told him I could be up there shortly and he said that was fine to just come up there when I could get up there. I ended up asking how late they were open, and to my surprise, a lot later than any other electronics repair shop I've ever dealt with.

When I got up to the shop and entered the shop, Gary was actually outside taking a short break when I arrived. He promptly came in behind me and apologized for being outside. He then asked how I could be helped in a professional manner. I explained that I had just called and he smiled and says, "You're the Samsung guy!". I laugh and tell him that I am indeed that person. So we go out to my car to get the TV out of the back seat and immediately see's that I'm having a hard time getting the TV out and picked up. I explain to him that I have multiple health issue's and picking up anything very heavy is extremely difficult. He then proceeds to tell me that I do not need to worry about picking the TV up that he will get it. I ask to make sure and he jokingly tells me, "Either TV will die or I might die, but I am carrying this TV" I laugh and tell him ok.

Once inside, he gets the TV setup on a temporary cart and explains that we will need to test the TV, I agree (fully). He gets it setup, I tell him the remote batteries are probably as old as the TV itself (which we find out to be true) and may not work. Sure enough, the batteries barely power the remote, but enough to get the TV on and set to a TV station. After a short time, he proceeded to pay me, in cash, the exact amount as promised over the phone. From here, my experience went from just a business experience to basically gaining a new friend.

I stayed there for quite some time, to the point of my wife ALMOST threatening to kill me (ask Gary, it's true!). We talked about a lot of things; electronics, health, family, TV's, business, customer service and more. He even shared some of his personal background with me as far as his life up till now and I did the same. He showed me around the shop, explained what his shop was about and what services he has done and does today and even went as far as offering me a soda or some water.

Now, a word from me personally. For anyone that has had a negative thing to say about Irving Electronics or Gary, please, do yourself a favor and try this business again. His beliefs about how business should run and the service he provides is honest. For those that have not tried his business, he will tell you up front service fee's and what he can do for you.

I truly believe he is out to make a honest living, to run a honest business, and if my experience isn't proof of this, I don't know what is. Thank you again and I look forward to doing business in the future with Irving...

This place is just horrible. The previous writer is correct in saying that it looks like a tornado hit the shop. It looks like it's owned by Sanford & Son or a never ending junky garage sale when you walk in the front door. I should have ran when I saw it. I still allowed the owner to solder (fuse) my tablets charging port back on. He stated it would be $25 to do so but if he couldn't fix it, that it would be $65 and could he just fix it rather than calling me. I said no. If you can't solder it, I will come and pick it up. It's just a cheap tablet for my daughter to play games on, so why would I pay $65 for him to fix it and it didn't cost that much. I guess he didn't like that he wouldn't be making more money. So, I took pictures of the port because I thought he may break it just so he could try to charge me more. He said he would open my tablet the next day. I left my tablet on a Wednesday. I never heard from him on Thursday. So I called. He stated that he hadn't opened it because it was going to take a while to fix. Soldering? Please. It doesn't take that long. I believe that he was money hungry and angry that he couldn't get $65.00 out of me. Friday comes, it still isn't fixed. No phone call from him. I called him and he said give him a couple of hours. I called at 6:30 pm.. he states I don't know if it's fixed but you can come pick it up. When I picked it up, it was open. He stated I couldn't close it back up but it's charging. I just picked up the tablet and went home. I was just so disgusted with the bootleg business. A few day later, solder came loose. I went back because on the receipt there is a guarantee. A 60 day and 30 day. As soon as I told him what happened. He just became very angry and hastily broke my tablet open causing the buttons to fall out on the dirty floor. I didn't know that all of my buttons fell out. I just felt one hit my foot. He began arguing with me saying that I want him to work for free. What is my problem and when I answered back he began saying that I needed to leave. I told him that I have the receipt with the guarantee and that he at least needs to try to solder it. He continue to holler that he gets paid $65.00 for this and stormed off to the back of the shop with my tablet. After a while, he called me back to the back of the shop. He told me, it's broken there is nothing I can do. I said okay, just put it back together like it was when I handed it to you. He started screaming, you gave it to me opened. I kept telling him, NO I DID NOT!!! I don't know how to open it up all the way and I wouldn't have done that in fear that I may break something!! He kept screaming at me so I called him crazy. He then threatens to call the police on me. I told him to call them. He sat the phone back down and tried to solder my tablet all the while belittling me. I said I will just contact the BBB. He says the BBB can't do anything, WHO IS THAT?? THE CCC, THE BBB? Get out of here!!! You are threatening me!!! He completely lost his mind!!! I asked him why did it take him two days to do something that he is now doing in a few minutes. He angrily said, YOU CANT FIX IT IN TWO DAYS!!!. I just kept begging him to please just close my tablet back up so I can leave. He fused my tablet back together (not the charging port) and handed it back to me in two pieces. I just left. This was the worst experience ever!! This man is very argumentative and angry for no apparent reason. DO NOT TAKE ANYTHING TO THIS MAN!!!! YOU WILL REGRET IT!!! THE LAST THING...The other tech in the office was watching YOUTUBE to learn how to fix a computer. ...

Took a SONY sound bar (SA-CT260H) and a SAMSUNG Blu-ray player (HT BD1250 A) with a volume knob that didn't work correctly and refused to work on either of them. Said that they don't work on soundbars because they "don't make replacement parts for them". And based on the model number of the Blu-ray player said that he couldnt find the parts and then proceeded to tell me the website where I could find the parts but I would have to buy them myself. I would give them 1 star bit he was super friendly and I appreciate good customer service.

UPDATE: I took upon myself to take them apart to see if I could fix it. The Sony sound bar has a bad MOSFET P CHANNEL chip. (9561AGM). I found a pack of 5 on Amazon for $5.76. Atlas Electronics is going to handle the soldering. The Blu-ray player was the easiest. The little PCB the controls the volume was dirty I guess because scrubbing it with alcohol and an old toothbrush fixed it. I feel like it would of been REASONABLE to at least try to see what was wrong with them. But you do reserve the right to accept or decline any repair that comes through your door. I was just reviewing my experience....
