La Jolla Resort — Attraction in Islamorada

We stayed for one night. I think I would have been more disappointed if I were spending my whole vacation here. The rooms are old but recently remodeled. They look nice in photos, but if you’re a detail oriented person you’ll notice a lot of problems in person. The first thing that was an issue was just the overwhelming cleaning solution smell. It was pretty unpleasant to deal with the smell and it lingered through the next day so it wasn’t just because they had finished cleaning. I suspect they must be using it to hide something like the smell of mold. When I went to open the windows to air out the smell the window literally fell out of the frame. Fortunately I caught it and it didn’t break. I was able to put it back in, but that gives you a sense of the shape of the rooms. Replacing the windows, keeping them clean would probably go a long way in making the room look more updated.

The layout in bathroom our room was also a little comical. The sink was so small that you would definitely splash water on the ground when using it to wash your face. There’s no closet in the room so it is tucked into the bathroom. Also the toilet was on this strange elevated platform that also made it feel a little cramped to me. Not a great bathroom. Also no air circulation in the bathroom.

Another strange thing is that the hotel room doors open out. Ours opened out onto a patio where 2 other rooms also open. Our door when open impedes the ability of the other door of the next door unit to open. This made me feel bad when I left the door open to air out our place from the smells because our neighbors then had their door blocked by our open door.

Redeeming things about the room. Loved that they had a nice kitchenette setup. At least there was a normal sized sink there that made up for the tiny one in the bathroom. I would probably opt to just do everything at that sink instead. The bed was comfortable. Furniture and decorations were updated and nice. I also enjoyed the resort facilities. The kayak was nice to borrow. Also appreciated that they had snacks.

I paid an extra $50 for the king deluxe room compared to the queen room my parents have. In retrospect I would have paid for the upgrade. Basically it got us one wall of windows that faced the parking lot. It felt expensive for what we got especially with a. $25 resort fee tacked onto the $250 room, but I understand the...

Here’s what we love most about La Jolla: AMENITIES AND LOCATION!!! Super close to great restaurants, coffee, and night life. The rooms are clean and updated and the staff are so helpful and accommodating.||Each room has a minimum of a keurig with sugar, sugar substitues, creamer, and pods. However Starbucks and Sunrise Cuban aren’t far off if you prefer a little more umph in your morning cup. The rooms also include a mini fridge and some water bottles, and basic toiletries like body wash, shampoo, and conditioner (travel size so pack extra for an extended stay).||There were kayaks, masks and snorkels, pfds, pool noodles, and bikes for all the guests to use. We took the kayaks out for a spin to a mangrove island just south of the motel. It was a beautiful way to spend the morning. When we returned, I did a bit of snorkeling around the docks and saw beautiful fish and several baby nurse sharks. There are pool towels also in the office upon request. There is a small pool on property, which we haven’t visited yet bc the salty water is just too tempting to avoid.||Hubby and I walked to Publix one night and had a lovely 20 minute stroll each way. There were plenty of restaurants along the way, namely Ziggie which was quite popular. We ate at Lazy Days one night, which was a quick 4 minutes drive south. And just north of La Jolla is a really cool little Whale and Dolphin rescue/museum. Great stop for a rainy day.||There are smaller rooms for couples and larger bungalows for families. We have been here twice as a couple and plan to return with our family in September. ||Overall, it’s clean, full of amenities, close to great eats and experiences, and an incredible representation of why Florida is the greatest place to vacation.||10/10...

La Jolla Resort happened to be my last minute hotel search result (1 day prior to checking in). The rate is slightly high but within reason.||To my surprise, my room is very clean, everything seems like recently remodeled with nice ocean vibe (I don't know about the other rooms). What I am even more surprise is that they have a wonderful outdoor area facing the ocean/Gulf of Mexico with a small nice sand beach, Tiki hut, hammocks, BBQ stoves, benches, and small boat slips. They even have self-served kayak, paddle boards, and snorkeling gears provided. The water is protected from the Atlantic ocean and therefore it's very calm, sallow, and wonderfully clear. Since I did not pay attention to the facilities and things to do when I booked the hotel, these are all added bonus that my two friends, from far far away, enjoyed the whole experience immensely. I have been to the keys numerous times but this is the absolute bests. We did BBQ at the beach watching sunset 2 nights in a roll and ate under the tiki hut (Mosquito repellent is needed though at night). And I took a remarkable sunset picture with just my iPhone and the beauty is permanently burnt into my memory.||I hope this place continues to keep it that way and be successful, thus I left the manager couple positive suggestions, one is to change the BBQ stove lighting into soft white which will match the nice ambience, second the entrance neon sign shows La Jolla Resort Motel, where Motel slightly downplay the place in my opinion, that may turn away some potential guests. Other than that, given the price, location, rooms, facilities, and recreation activities, I do give them 10/10 although it's not a luxury but more than comfortable enough a nice local neat resort....
