This place is me and my husband’s go to spot when we come to the Keys!! The location is stunning, the resort is beautiful, and another huge reason for why we come is because of the people we meet when we come here. Everyone at the Islander has been so incredible, but there’s a few names I got to mention:
“Kelly” is another person that we look forward to every time we come to the Islander! She is not only a fantastic bartender, but an amazing person who makes our experience incredible with so much energy! She’s so fun, always has a smile on her face, and we love having good laughs with her. She’s another person that my husband and I hoped was here at the Islander and thank God she has stayed as well. Kelly is so professional, funny, and outgoing that you can’t help but remember her. Kelly is truly absolutely wonderful and we need her to stay at the Islander as well lol. Kelly, thank you sooo much for all your help and all the good times! We look forward to many more with you! 😊
“Junior” is another person we met right when we got to the Islander our second time around and has been an absolute JOY to talk to about life and see at the resort. He is filled with so much great energy, an amazing personality, so funny, so kind, and extremely helpful. He made sure we got everything we needed when we had a maintenance issue and had another beautiful conversation with about our faith in God. Anytime we see Junior he has a smile on his face and he absolutely is another person we need to stay at the Islander!!! 😊
A couple other names like “Demetrius, Alexia, and Tee (Tekeia)”, are people we want to continue to see when we come to the Islander! They made our experience that much more incredible and such genuine, kind, helpful, and amazing people!!! 🙏🏽🩵
Thank you, The Islander, you guys have an incredibly beautiful location, but the people that work hard for this resort, are what make it that much...
Read moreFirst off, I'm going to just say that this place is expensive. I'm not going to front that it isn't. Between the room rate and resort fee, you will pay a lot. But if you want to feel like you are on an island away from the noise of life- IT'S WORTH IT.
This resort is beautiful. I don't know if maybe I came after the reviews about the landscaping, but I found it to be lush and stunning. There is nature all around you. I saw all kinds of lizards and birds and even a snake (it was just a garden snake- nothing to freak out over.) The resort even has a funny resident chicken. The buildings are spaced in a way that makes you feel like your group of rooms are the only ones there. At night, you can lay on a lounger and just watch the stars come out, it's really breathtaking.
The rooms (I stayed in a regular king) are in buildings of about 6-8 and have super high vaulted ceilings. This makes the room seem massive. I had a nice firm King bed (it was a dream) and the room came with a couch (I'm guessing a pull out one), a table and chairs, dresser, wardrobe and a kitchette. The sink to the bathroom is outside the bathroom itself which houses the toilet and shower. For the price, most would expect a more luxurious bathroom, but it is a beach hotel, and you really are only showering. The shower was small but large enough to bathe my 1 year old, so I can't complain. The community bath products were nice and smelled amazing. Also nice is that you can drive up to your building and park. The buildings are spaced diagonally with trees in between, so you don't see of hear the buildings around you. The nicest part of the rooms are the screened in porches with a table, chairs, and ceiling fan. Outside the porch is an area with loungers.
The pools are beautiful and heated. The Tides restaurant has delicious drinks and food. And the staff is extra friendly. The beach is gorgeous, and there are tons of outdoor activities if you et bored- beach volleyball, corn hole, soccer, connect four, etc. They have rental bikes and kayaks too. There is a fishing pier as well. In the water they have swim up lounger rafts to sun bathe and they have a plethora of beach chairs. At night, you can sit by a fire pit.
All in all, it was a beautiful trip that I will always remember.
Tip: stop at Publix and get sodas/water and snacks to store in the room to save $$. I ordered most of my meals via takeout and ate at the hotel because my daughter is in a...
Read moreWe had a room with a beach view. Understand that a beach view means you see out on the common beach area.. not stepping out and sitting by the ocean. The “ beach” is sand on top of coral or concrete.. not sure.. but it’s not the kind of sand you dig in to. Each room is set up like a bungalow. The back porch is screened and has a table and four chairs. It also has a ceiling fan. You can then step out to your two lounge chairs and a little table between them.
There is a low hedge that surrounds this area. Right over the low hedge is the common beach area. The common beach area has the splash pad, ping pong table, shuffle board and little Jenga table.
The common beach area continues on to the ocean access beach about a 100 yards away. You access the pool around this area as well as lounge chairs, swimming, kayaking and paddle boarding.
The water sports and bicycles are down by the water. You get a free hour with them each day. It was fun to paddle board and kayak, but keep in mind you are going up and down the resort in very calm water. It’s relaxing not overly exhilarating.
They have absolutely no fitness area. Hate that part of it.
At the pool there is a bar and grill. You can order from the beach or the pool. Food is good and drinks are amazing! There is a restaurant we got breakfast at every morning. The grits are creamy and delicious.. although not your traditional consistency. The eggs and bacon were always good, and the toast was thick and delicious. You can grab complimentary coffee there to go each day until 11.. and it is good. No oat milk though.. which was disappointing. They do carry almond milk.
Loved hanging out at our room.. felt like we were part of a neighborhood listening to kids playing, a dog or two barking.. people playing games. However, the last night there was a wedding on the other side of the property and the music was LOUD and went from around 6 to 11. We could even hear it in our room. Guess it’s because the resort’s wedding venue is outside.
Housekeeping did an amazing job of keeping room clean and stocked.
There is a nice sized fridge and safe in the room, along with a decent coffee maker for one or two cups. Lots of room for clothes. Bed was very comfortable. Room had mini split and ceiling fan as well as a sofa, table, and tv. We had the...
