I do not think the AYCE worth the price, $22 including tax per person. Service was friendly and helpful, though. There was free hot tea when we came. It was not busy on a Monday night. Sadly, there was no ice cream for dessert but orange, only. For the appetizer, I would recommend Deep Fried Scallop with the side of Yum Yum Sauce, which paired better than the hot and sour sauce came with the dish. The house salad was a real ginger salad with house-made dressing. It was a little strange that they also served some small side dishes of kimchi, which is originated in Korea, in a Japanese restaurant. Anyway, I love their salty peanut and kimchi. The rolls overall were not too good. There were various types of roll, but they were all not so impressive. I could tell Rock n Roll, Boston Roll, and Davis Roll were not wise choices. As we mainly ordered salmon and shrimp, I could only be confident saying that the quality of salmon is not first rated. The Salmon Nigiri: some bites were tasty, fresh, and mellow, but some were fishy and harsh. The cut was thin, probably thinner than it supposed to be. The rice was somehow too much and too thick. I wished they had some kinds of Sashimi as the price was not low at all. Or at least, hibachi. There were just the choices of appetizer, nigiri, and the sushi roll. I think the selections of sushi are poor. However, the sushi was poorly made, looking sloppy, and there was too much rice packed on. Besides, we gave the order only twice, but the first time the waiter did not bring the Spider Roll, and the second time they forgot to bring Miso Soup and Egg Nigiri. I have no idea how the restaurant got this many votes with such a good rate. Perhaps they used to perform their work better than they are now. I also believe there were some better AYCE sushi restaurants in the Chicago area. Therefore, sorry, I possibly will not be back here.

QUICK FIX FOR A SUSHI CRAVING My fam and I are fans of Sushi so, we've tried MANY restaurants in the Chicago area. Most recently we dined at Sushi Tokoro which is located just north of the El on Western Ave. Overall, the restaurant staff was prompt, friendly and responded very quickly to our requests. There are 2 choices for dining: ordering off the menu or $22 for all you can eat. We choose the $22. It was the day after Christmas, December 26th and we were surprised to find the restaurant at almost 95% capacity with several additional hungry diners picking up carry out. We ordered 8 rolls for 2 people which voila, it came displayed on "the Boat". I know it's cheezy but, I love it when Sushi arrives on a bamboo boat. This one filled up the empty space with a plastic fish decor, cute ;). The rolls were filling but, had a little too much rice, making them hard to eat in one bite. Even though we had 8 different kinds of rolls, they all tasted very similar. We think it's because of the flat fee. For the price and good service, we would go back but, the food quality is only so-so. A few notes: There is parking on the street, just make sure you pay at the green box, otherwise Chicago will ticket you. Public transportation is available, Blue Line and CTA. For weekends, I highly recommend making reservations and it's a BYOB restaurant.

It’s alright. It’s strange that this place has so many good reviews. I guess people don’t know much about sushi. To be fair, they don’t taste bad or anything but it’s not great sushi either. Me (Japanese) and my Asian friends think It’s just mid. Here’s why: They put way too much rice. The ratio is ridiculous. They put very little fish. Tempura is not crunchy but just oily and stale. Also the rolls are done poorly. Their prices are very reasonable but their food is meh so I think it’s matching the price. You definitely don’t get more than what you pay for. You’re mostly paying for rice not fish. (Which is probably why it’s cheap) This is a good option when all the other AYCE sushi places are too busy or you also wanna save money. They keep prioritizing online orders so you’ll wait a long time. There were very few customers but we waited an hour before we had our food. we saw them making sushi for online orders that came in after us. We also saw them serving the tables that came after us because they had AYCE. The staff is nice but they have poor management. If you’re ordering AYCE, i recommend ordering a lot first because you’ll wait a while till your next one gets done. Note: Yes-I’m from Japan but I do not have high expectations when I go to sushi restaurants in the States. There are better options in Chicago.

Unfortunately, this was not the experience we expected after reading the reviews. There were five of us for lunch - yes we were seated immediately. At noon, there was only one other table that had patrons.

Their lunch menu is very limited. I ordered the all-you-can-eat sushi as well as four others. One person ordered Hibachi Steak.

Service is about the same as other Sushi restaurants. They are slower than other types, but this is completely due to the preparation and the way they present the food. Their presentation was really well done.

The problem we had was everyone who got the Sushi was sick for two days after. I'm not sure if it was the fish. Since we ordered off a Sushi menu with appetizers and desserts, we had other things like edamame, tempura, soup. I think it could have been the tempura. The vegetables were overcooked and the batter was extremely oily - not crisp. And, the oil tasted like it may have been old.

In fairness, I tasted the Hibachi Steak. While it was a little too done for my taste (it was ordered well done), the taste was wonderful.

So, I would not write off Sushi Tokoro, but am wary about going again. The following couple of days was simply not worth it. With overabundance of good Sushi options in Chicago, this may be one I go back to again, but I have lots of other places...
