Torres Omar Jewelers — Attraction in Jefferson Township

Three generations of our family have gone to this jeweler. We made a purchase recently for my son and didn’t question the price because they had a great reputation so we assumed we were paying a fair price. Three days later our other son went to purchase something there and they were closing in the middle of business hours??? He then went elsewhere to a jeweler close to our home and purchased a much heavier, more intricate piece at a way better price than what we payed at Torres for our younger son. We went back to Torres with our purchase to see if what we payed was possibly an honest mistake. We explained that our other son purchased gold elsewhere. We showed the weight of gold and price payed on receipt from other jeweler and were told at Torres that the other jeweler must be selling used or gold plated jewelry and that this is the current price of gold plus workmanship etc.in order to still make a profit. We accepted the explanation and politely left. The jeweler that my older son purchased from has also been in business over 40 years. They do not sell used or gold plated jewelry. It wasn’t very classy of Torres to suggest such a thing about the other jeweler instead of just admitting the other jeweler has better prices. Ultimately we decided to purchase a much nicer piece for our younger sons gift at the other jeweler. We took a loss on our purchase at Torres but it was a lesson learned. I would rather see the beautiful piece we purchased from another jeweler on my son, knowing that we payed an appropriate amount than have to look at a smaller piece every day and be reminded that we shopped like fools. We will no longer be recommending or going to Torres Omar Jeweler. Greed has taken over integrity. UPDATE to your response 9/2/2021: You explained all of that when I was in your store. I as well can use a calculator. The other jeweler I am speaking of has been in business over 40 years too. They sell quality jewelry. They also did not speak negatively about your store. They simply have better prices. You have personally seen other pieces that were purchased there for my husband before my husband started taking me to your store. I am very proud of the solid piece of 14k gold jewelry purchased new from their store yesterday for my son. He is wearing the overpriced chain from your store and a much heavier high quality cross from theirs. I will hold onto the lightweight cross I purchased from your store and give it to a grandchild. It is pretty but it was chosen to stay within budget with the chain I purchased. What I learned from this experience is to do my research on gold prices and shop wisely. Thank you for your response. Was not impressed, especially after it was so highly recommended. I called the Friday before Mother’s Day asking if I could place an order over the phone and pick it up the next day. The young lady that answered was very polite and told me that I could order online and it would be ready for pick up for the following day which was Saturday. She didn’t even check to make sure what I wanted was in stock, so I asked if I could order with her over the phone and she recommended that I do it online instead. The following day once my order was placed and paid for, I sent an email to set up and appointment to pick up my order. They responded by telling me that my order wouldn’t me ready until the following week, so I called and the spoke to the same girl. She apologized for the inconvenience and asked if I needed my item for Mother’s Day, which I did, and said she would text me pictures of similar items that I could take instead. I told her I was already on my way and was in the area, she said okay give me a few minutes. I WAITED OVER AN HOUR AND RECEIVED NOTHING! I had to call back and she said they were still in the process of sending me those pictures. I still politely asked for my order to be shipped to my house. That Monday I got an email saying the item I paid for was discontinued and they could send me pictures of alternatives, again says it would only take 15 minutes and again a whole hour passed and NOTHING. Fed up I asked for a refund because I was tired of the back and forth. I will say they refunded me very quickly, but sent an email saying I should be more understanding. I think it’s extremely rude and unprofessional to shame someone after all the mistakes they committed. If they would have simply checked to see if they had the earrings in stock, we could have all saved ourselves...

“Torres Omar Jewelers Services with over 25 yrs of experience ,Expert Jewelry Repair, Alteration and Restoration” That is right off of their website. I went in on 12/18/19 with this necklace and asked them if they would be able to mend it. The necklace was broken in a perfectly vertical. I called them 12/20/19 to ask about a text I was supposed to receive and they informed me it was ready. Initially they told me it wouldn’t be done until after the New Years. Completely understandable, so I was a bit shocked it only took a day and a half.

Boy, when I got there and saw the end result I was blown away. The lady handing me the necklace didn’t even want to give it to me because the job looked like a middle school child mended it in their home-eco class. I was speechless. There was discoloration all over the back. It looked like someone squirted super glue on the back and tried to sand it down I mean I wanted to cry. I wish I would’ve taken a picture of the original job. If the job couldn’t be done I would have rather them be upfront and honest rather then rush and do more harm to something I’ve had since birth. The owner gave excuse after excuse on the work his employee put in. He then insisted on “fixing” the issue even though I was SUPER hesitant. After an hour I came back and this is the result. As you can see there is still a bit of a hard scratch over the left side of the E but it’s a hell of a lot better than what the original job looked like and for that I give them 1 star. I wouldn’t recommend this location for repairs or alterations AT ALL! Looks like a lot of their low ratings come from bad work jobs. TAKE YOUR MONEY SOMEWHERE ELSE....
