Jerome Grand Hotel — Attraction in Jerome

My wife and I have visited Jerome a number of times over the years but were never able to stay for one reason or another . We moved to South Carolina and still managed a visit on a day trip from Phoenix but no over night . Now we decided to celebrate our 30th anniversary with a road trip and our primary target was Jerome and then staying at the best place we knew , the Jerome Grand Hotel. We made our reservation a couple months out and we were set, I believe we even got a phone call a week out confirming our visit. We drove cross country and took it all in| We drove up the small , yet in my book, very quaint and fun driveway up to the hotel. We were a little early but our room was ready and we checked in . The front desk lady , Nat I think was great and Jess, were top notch , forgive me if I got their names wrong as I should’ve wrote them down. They were knowledgeable and even told us about some of the history of things at the hotel. A very important employee who has not retired is, Otis , as in the Otis elevator. This was indeed a step back in time and just added to the ambiance of it all . | The hallways are all decorated with different things from history so check.out the hallways , after you have ridden the elevator. I would use the stairs from time to time and this is how I discovered them. We were on the 4th floor and as we opened the door , our room, which used to be a hospital room was perfect . It had a king bed, couple comfy chairs to relax and the bathroom and shower were great. Now we made sure to request a balcony and it was worth the upgrade , my wife had tears in her eyes as we looked over Jerome and I’m sure I saw the mountains in Sedona . And cottonwood . The hotel was the perfect spot to leave the car and walk all over Jerome. Land of 1000 stairs and 100 mile views . I have listed some great restaurants in my reviews , but the Clinkscale is the best .| We stayed two nights here and talked with the front desk often , the young gentleman at night was super friendly as well . The breakfast is sausage biscuits you can heat up, lots of pastries, milk, almond milk, yogurt, cereals , granola and I’m sure I forgot some things but it was delicious and nice to relax there | We will definitely stay again and maybe do a week next time as I and already looking at next September lol. |Also I wanted to add Jerome is a great spot for day trips as we did visit , montezumas well and montezumas castle from there . EVERYTHING you read about the hotel and room 32 is for real. Babies crying, balcony doors slamming, water running when you wake up in the middle of the night to go to the bathroom, sounds if something walking the halls, banging and knocking everywhere, TV changing channels randomly, disembodied voices (at least one totally not cool I could have lived without the growling) AND orbs LOTS of orbs... did I mention this was just the first night? SERIOUSLY so much went down most of which I managed document mostly on accident.

The second night of our stay I woke up to the bed sort of shaking. Room 32 has a queen bed and my friend has some serious sleep apnea. I thought his snoring had him thrashing around. I was like DUDE, I’m filming this snoring thing because this is too much. Instead of him thrashing around he was in “dead man’s pose” yoga style pretty much gasping for air. I still was thinking it was the sleep apnea and grabbed my phone and started recording his snoring fest. Much to my surprise there were balls of light flying out of the walls, doors, bathroom AND his mouth. My phone could see this but obviously I couldn’t. After 50 minutes of filming the carnage I had captured well over 100 of the “orbs”.. At some point I started to think the situation was abnormal lol (NOT LOL) I was like I’m going to the crazy elevator and headed to the lobby for coffee.

Not to brag but I’ve had the opportunity to stay in some amazingly strange hotels as well as beautiful and crazy upscale spots all over the country, I have got to tell you their coffee and breakfast setup was the BEST breakfast I’ve ever had!!! Weird right?! The Asylum restaurant was soooo good. The mixed drinks were epic! The view from the balcony in room 32 was just truly amazing at sunrise. I time lapsed a sunrise and I will say it was one of the most stunning I have ever filmed.

SO 3 nights in room 32 had our souls tired BUT I immediately booked the Grande Suite and we are flying back from South Carolina to Arizona for another experience, just a month from our last. I think this next trip is pretty much to verify that the last experience was even real!

If you can get past the mind trip of the hotel then you just HAVE TO GO. I strongly recommend bringing a bottle of bourbon or your drink of choice for the room. It may end up being the only thing that take...

While the hotel offers a picturesque stay in Jerome, I will unfortunately no longer be staying with them.

I wanted to take my 6 year old daughter to the hotel over her spring break as she is fascinated by all things spooky. In the past, I have stayed and gone on their "ghost tour" and have to say it was one of the most fun experiences I have ever had at a hotel. On the night I went, nearly every person staying in the hotel was in attendance. I was looking forward to sharing this experience with my daughter.

Sadly, the owner has now taken a more keen interest in the property and he does not wish to market the hotel as having anything to do with the supernatural or cater to those interested in the eerie history of the building (just look at the other comments where the owner responds and you'll see no mention of the hotel's mysterious past or even an acknowledgement of anyone who mentions it).

He was a "hands off" owner for a large period of time and apparently does not care for how the hotel was marketed (despite the national attention it gained from shows like Ghost Adventures). Now that he is back in the mix, he quashed the ghost tours and wants to have nothing to do with any ghostly activity surrounding his hotel.

As an owner, he has the utmost right to market his hotel however he pleases. I just find it sad that he now chooses to ignore those who came to love the haunted nature of the hotel and wish to share that with others. This structure was such a large part of the town and it seems such a shame to disregard the rich history of the building.

I brought my disappointment to the management (who went out of her way to convey that going forward, this is what the owner wanted). I wrote to her that I now feel like I should just stay an extra night in Sedona rather than planning a night at the hotel when showing around out of state visitors. I could almost hear her snide tone when she wrote, "enjoy Sedona".

If the owner no longer cares to have my business, so be it. Perhaps if he hears from enough people that will also miss the rich history lessons from staff, the ghost tours, or the past willingness to embrace the eerie ambiance of the hotel, he may once again at least acknowledge the patrons that made his hotel the success...
