A V O I D A V O I D A V O I D A V O I D!!!
Just had a group of 6-8 people wandering on my floor. I heard them by my door, I opened my door, they saw me and they continued touring themselves and hanging in the hallway being loud. A few minutes later, I noticed they were all hanging on the other side of our deck which is a door that should be locked by management at all times. Once again, I opened my door to “investigate”. I didn’t want to be rude, perhaps these are my neighbors?!? They didn’t speak English, so there was a clear barrier when they saw me. My unit is literally next to the trash room. I walked in for oh gosh, 2 SECONDS?!?! The people touring themselves watched me walk out for 2 seconds, and walked into my apartment!!!!!!!! I ran so fast when he started turning my door- his reaction- NONE!!! Spoke no English, walked into my apartment. When my partner was finished in the bathroom, she stormed out and shouted at these people questioning who they are and why they are on our floor. Apparently one spoke a little English and stated “we were told to show ourselves”. I immediately notified the leasing office. Now, I can not even take my own garbage out within 2 seconds!
How can a building like this be so careless?!?! IT HAPPENS WAY TOO OFTEN HERE and I am not blaming the front desk at all. 90 Columbus is advertised online as having a DOORMAN. This unfortunately is not a doorman and it’s not the front desk’s fault. My old building had a doorman.
3rd floor stinks like cigarettes from time to time. People take their dogs out to urinate on 3rd floor parking garage which is not my problem.
false fire alarms in building with zero communication indicating it’s false. Fire department has been here and no one has any idea what’s going on because the doors are bolted shut but no announcement comes on letting you know this is not a fire. It’s frightening when you work from home and run down flights and flights of stairs because elevators are down for zero reason.
Community events are often disorganized as I’ve attended and was told they ran out of food after 25 minutes when the event was 2 hours. Very disappointing. BASE gym is their strongpoint that’s it!
Also, many renters have more than 1 dog which is against policy. It’s difficult for my dog to play in the dog area because there many dogs exceeding 50 pounds which is prohibited according to lease agreement. NOTHING IS enforced!! I am positive management doesn’t even know how many dogs really live here. How can you have 2 dogs here when it’s $50 per pet. FISHY.
Floors are buckled due to laminate finishes when our defective dishwasher flooded. Our bathtub tiles have plastic falling down drain, dishwasher was placed in wrong location causing a hole in the wall when you open it, dishwasher flooded and ruined floors and a new $300 rug. We just moved in here to this brand new building. Elevators do break from time to time but I guess that’s expected. Very very cheap finishings. I’ve visited friends who pay $800 each in The Heights and their floors and appliances are better quality than here. A flood, 6 broken heaters, dishwasher replaced, broken shower head and a few splinters from the cheap floors. Not to mention, nothing ever dropped on floors just from simply vacuuming. $3800 for what seems to be the quality of an affordable housing unit appliance wise. This place is seriously a Ford Pinto deceiving you into thinking you’re living luxury living Tesla. Inside unit finishings are pure junk.
Paper thin windows. Construction cranes, slamming, beeping from 630am-4pm all winter and spring outside my apartment. Management can be difficult to contact and does not respond to emergency situations immediately such as flooding when you email multiple times. $3800 per month, for Walmart living. Avoid...
Read moreThe property was managed by Allied 9 years ago when I moved in. The current management company, Ironstate cuts corners and charges fees that were never agreed upon with former management.
A lot went wrong in the building over the course of new management.
One of our lobby attendants was only allowed to work in the parking garage after an incident. This is awkward because we would see her in the different role because she publicly lost other responsibilities.
The mold in the building is an extreme problem. It's due to unkept plumbing that causes drains to gurgle and produce sewerage into your apartment. It also causes floods and major damage.
This damage caused by the building was apparently my responsibility because when I moved, I was charged for it.
The pool in July is occasionally warm when it opens. By September it barely has water, is dirty and cold. There's no supervisor that controls the amenities and so lifeguards don't know how to heat the pool. Grills are broken and you have to ask someone to light them for you. So if that person is on a break or doing something else, you can wait up to 30 mins to begin your grill.
Off leash dogs are everywhere. There's a long term tenant who continues to behave like the entire building is his alone. His dog is never on a leash and he solicits dog walking services very loudly to every neighbor. That is, there are few boundaries or personal space.
Since moving, the building has charged me over 1K after the neighbors apartment flooded. The water never dried and mold was out of control. I always paid rent on time and had 5 floods in the 9 years of living in two units.
The elevators are consistently broken. This has caused extremely long wait times due to over crowding.
Fire drills are frequent. At this time, sometimes middle of the night, you'll be forced to climb down to the lobby. If you have young children you'll be forced to carry them.
After monthly fire drills for 9 years, there was never a legitimate fire. But for consistent weeks and months, you'll be jolted awake and forced to climb down stairs from your floor.
Packages are put in a locker system. Sometimes you'll get a two day prime shipment but cannot access it until someone puts it in a locker. This turn around can take days and often packages go missing in...
Read moreWe’ve been in 90 Columbus for 21 months. We love the apartment and the facilities but the management, maintenance of the public areas and, most worryingly, the security are appalling. Main issues are:
Rarely are all of the elevators working and recently it’s been down to 1 of 4 at times. This would be poor at any time but when we are supposed to be socially distancing, it’s dreadful
There is no security at the front desk. Non-residents hang around in the lobby and food delivery staff go wherever they want, wandering around the floors. No one is ever challenged
Management of parcels if out of control. I know there’s been a huge increase but the poor front desk struggle and there’s always parcels lying around.
There’s no control as to who uses the communal facilities and it’s been a real challenge in times of Covid. Management emails aren’t the answer.
We love some of the staff. Jeremy and the maintenance crew spring to mind - always friendly and helpful. Apartment maintenance is always done within hours. Lisa and Mark on the front desk are cheerful, friendly and very helpful. The cleaners and the people who attend to the communal areas are great and incredibly cheerful in dealing with the litter and other detritus the residents leave behind.
All of them, however, are let down my managers (or maybe owners) who simply don’t care.
We’re on the older side of the residents but thankfully still fit. I dread to think about how anyone more infirm of even disabled would cope with the ridiculous lobby doors and the unreliable elevators.
On a positive note: as we say, many of the staff are great and the location couldn’t be better. Straight out of the building into Grove Street Path station makes travel into Manhattan fast and safe. The (expensive) supermarket was a life-saver in Covid - everything you could need - a great selection of alcohol! We love the easy access to all the local bars and restaurants- we’ll miss Newark Avenue so much when leave the city.
We regularly tell people who are looking at apartments about the poor management as they wait for an elevator. Maybe the owners should...
