My husband and I stayed @ this hotel for a birthday event we were attending in New Jersey. We used to leave in the area and thought it would be a location to stay due to it's proximity to the airport, New York City etc. The area has also experienced a lot of gentrification and growth. ||||First thing to note; The hotel has no drop off area. The hotel is right on a busy street and there is no main entrance where you can drive up too and off load your bags or drop off people. It's all right on the busy street.||||Secondly; The hotel has absolutely no parking. Parking is on the street which you will rarely find. The other option is to park in the public parking garage which is about 5mins walk to the hotel. There is no link from the garage to the hotel. The hotel does not have any special pricing or flat rate with the parking garage. You pay every time you go in and out of the garage. On average $20.||||Third; The lobby area is very small. Not what you are used to with most hotels. The rooms are pretty small as well for a Residence Inn. ||||The biggest issue I had with this hotel and why I would recommend you stay away from this hotel is the hotel has THEIVES AND LIARS WORKING FOR THEM. We stayed @ the hotel to attend a birthday party. At the birthday party, we were giving quite a bit of souvenirs. We couldn't take all the souvenirs with us as we were flying back home. We intentionally left these items in the hotel room. As we were getting ready to leave the room, we received a text message that our flight was cancelled. In a frenzy on how we were going to get home, we left the hotel room in a hurry without doing a final check to make sure nothing was left behind. Prior to leaving the room, I went into the bathroom to pickup my toiletry and noticed my husband's toiletry bag was on the countertop. I wondered why he left it there and just thought he was planning to come back to the bathroom hence why his toiletry bag was on the countertop. ||||Upon getting home around 1am in the morning, my husband asked if I brought out his toiletry bag from the suitcase. Immediately my mind went to the image of his toiletry bag sitting on the countertop in the bathroom. First thing in the morning, I called the hotel and spoke with the front desk lady who said she would call housekeeping, check the lost and found and give me a call back. She called me back within 20-30mins and said no item was recovered from the room. I said absolutely no items??? She said yes. I said what about the souvenirs that were left intentionally in the room, she said nothing was reported left in the room. ||||I called back @ 9.30am in the morning and spoke with Ryan Front Desk manager. I explained the situation to him and he said he will look into it and call me back. Ryan said to me "if a pencil is left in the room or anything is left in the room that was not placed by the hotel, it is reported to lost and found." Ryan calls me back and says absolutely nothing was left in the room and nothing was reported to lost and found. I was puzzled and said to him big items were intentionally left in the room plus my husband's toiletry bag which weighs at least 5pds. How could this be missed??? He said he doesn't know but nothing was reported from the room as left behind. At this point, I was upset as the hotel staff were obviously lying and someone had stolen all the birthday souvenirs and my husband's toiletry bag. Which is just rather pathetic. He appeared non-chalant about it and I asked for the regional manager.||||I was concerned about my husband's toiletry bag not only of the items in there but he had two pretty expensive colognes inside the bag. This is obviously what the person saw and decided not to turn in the items from the room. ||||I spoke with John who apparently is the regional manager for the hotel. Absolutely no help, and quite disappointed for someone in a managerial role. Said the same thing that nothing was turned in. I asked him to explain how big heavy items were left over in the room and he can say for sure nothing was left in the room that was not placed by the hotel. I asked if he could review the security cameras for that floor and date. Himself and Ryan said there were no cameras on the floor which is a security concern and breach for a hotel. Said there was nothing else he could do. ||||I have been a Marriott gold member for years. I have never experienced anything like this. Very despicable for a hotel under the...
Read moreThis hotel pleasantly surprised me. Situated in a fantastic location just above the Grove PATH rail station, you are effectively two rail stops away from the World Trade Centre in NYC.
The hotel staff are fantastic, fun and friendly people all round. From the front desk, to room service, to the folks at the breakfast bar - absolutely top notch.
I stayed in a corner room (614) on level 6. The room came with a fully equipped kitchen and was spacious overall. All the furniture and equipment in the room was relatively new and/or well maintained. Bed was really comfortable and I had little problem falling asleep on me first night even after being jet lagged from flying in from Australia.
Wireless connectivity was super speedy.
I used the gym twice and found the facilities to be good. Not a massive gym but it has enough of a variety in terms of exercise equipment to make one sweat it out. Next to the gym was a coin-operated laundry room. Guests can get change notes for quarters at the front desk.
I also asked and received complimentary dental kits and a shaving kit from the front desk. Each dental kit came with a toothbrush, tooth-paste and mouth wash. The dental kit came with a shaver and shaving cream (generous sized can).
My room rate also include daily complimentary breakfast. I was surprised with the variety on offer (hot and cold), especially when I did not have to pay for the privilege. Brewed coffee was on the house as well. On top of this, the staff would regularly come around the tables offering water, juice, dessert, etc. Just awesome experience all round.
Now if there were things to look out for (really minor ones): Try get a room at a higher floor and/or one that’s not facing the Marin Bvld and Christopher Columbus Dr intersection. Road traffic can be bad at times, especially when emergency vehicles come by (quite regularly) with their sirens and horns on. If you do use the dry cleaning service, they may not work on Sundays, so if you had some dirty clothes needing to be dry cleaned, be prepared to only get them back in the evening on Mondays. This is important as I don’t want you to be stuck with only your undies (as it was nearly the...
Read moreAll perfect, really! The room is smallish, but big enough that 3 people don't feel cramped. This is one of the best designed rooms I've been in. There are TONS of drawers, so my whole family unpacked. It would be way too tight for us to have 3 suitcases open, but there is no need for that with all the storage. Super friendly breakfast staff too!
There is a bougie grocery store literally right here, Sprove. So on that day that you're too exhausted to get yourself to a restaurant just go downstairs. They have tons of options - sushi, paninis, yakisoba - all made to order. Very, very friendly staff. It's not expensive, $10 for yakisoba that fed my teenager and I.
While the subway station is super close, be warned that it can be a bit confusing because there is a NJ system that is named PATH and the NY system, MTA. You need to pay for separate cards for them. We're familiar and comfortable taking the subway, but this tripped us up. The PATH unlimited card is only valid for 7 days, Mon-Sun. So DO NOT buy one later in the week, it'll expire 11:59pm Sun!
Time: it's going to take you about 45 min to get from here to Times Square. If you're here for a very short time, you may want to stay on the Manhattan side. We were here for 10 days so it was fine, but if it was a super short trip, you'd spend about 1.5 hours a day on the subway to get to and from main attractions.
Also, the easiest spot to get to from here is WTC, then you change to get to wherever you're going. It's not hard, but it's a little bit tricky to know when you exit a station or not to transfer. Use the app Citymapper. We tried several and ended up lost. This one was by far the best.
An Uber to get back here from Manhattan is EXPENSIVE, like $60+ (mind you a taxi from La Guardia was $65, and a much farther distance), so it's not really reasonable to jump in a cab to get home.
There is an Avis rental car place super close. So if you want to get to a Jersey beach, check for a car! I looked one morning and the rate was under $60 which is great for a day trip.
All in all, it's a great...
