0 stars, if I could. This place was such a terrible experience. Terribly rude manager, Shay, treated me like a white, privileged Karen instead of a desperate special needs mom. I received no respect or decency as another human from this stone-hearted B. We were on vacation, when we left the Newport Aquarium earlier than expected. Decided to FINALLY take our Autistic 8 yr old son to the Sonic movie he had been begging to see. We were NEVER TOLD this was a special theatre or blasting experience. We don’t know anything about amc theaters as there isn’t one near our hometown. When we took our seats, the theatre was playing previews and it was BLASTING! My dad was with our family and shoved tissues in his ears. My husband and I are neurotypical and both felt it was ungodly and unenjoyable loud. Even for a “full experience”. I politely asked if they could turn it down and was told it will get quieter after the previews. It didn’t. I politely went back out and told them it was still quite loud and I would appreciate any amount they could turn it down. We don’t think we are “special” or deserve different treatment to accommodate our son. Ever!!! But this was unenjoyable for us ALL! She said she would turn it down a little but can’t ruin the experience for others. I get that. It was still blasting however. I looked around the theatre and there were only 10 other people in it. I asked them if they would mind if I asked them to turn it down. They ALL said no. One of the women said it would do her a favor as it was too loud for her too. I politely went back out AGAIN, not wanting to be this person, but told her every single person in the theatre said it would fine to turn it down. She told me she would not turn it down to accommodate 1 person and ruin the experience for all. She didn’t believe me or like me at that point. She said she wouldn’t turn it down unless EVERY SINGLE PERSON in that theatre came out and told her to turn it down. Kept telling me she could issue a refund (to get rid of me) but what am I supposed to do, drag my autistic son out of the theatre who thought his moment to see the movie had finally come?! He can’t understand why these people didn’t deserve our money or time! I asked for noise canceling headphones and they said they had sensory friendly movie times. Maybe that was something I should have been told the first time I asked about the volume, ticket girl?! Right at the beginning so I could drag him out while the previews were still playing! Duh! So I sat through the movie, through tears of frustration, while my poor son covered his ears, to see Sonic. And I wrote this review instead of having the family time I wished for. I hope Shay feels good about her power trip. I hope no one ever treats her or her children the way she treated us. I am LIVID. She was clearly not a mother, to understand, as mothers help each other out. And my mistake if she is, because she didn’t have a nurturing or sympathetic tone in her bad attitude for me to sense she was. Not even human to human. What an awful time this was for our differently-abled experience with AMC at Newport Mall, Kentucky. Do not...
Read more*UPDATE December 2015 the place has been largely overhauled. Sound, seats, reserved seating, leather recliners, better traffic flow, more self-service ticket printers, better flow around concessions area...overall a much much much more current and user-friendly cinema experience. Saw Star Wars here twice opening weekend in reserved seats I bought at home and used the Q reader on my phone at the ticket taker stand, bypassing the box office entirely. With the exception of temp control in the auditoriums, which I am willing to overlook because this December it's been 30 degrees on a Monday and 65 on a Tuesday, it is probably going to be my go-to movie theater from now on.
OLD REVIEW SPRING 2015 Absolutely unremarkable, standard, completely beige cinema inside an equally beige, unremarkable, standard shopping mall. Been coming here for fifteen years on and off and I have never had rude service, seen a mouse or rat or smelled anything bad, as opposed to some of these other reviewers who seem to have had horrendous experiences the SINGLE time they DEIGNED to visit this place. I find it hard to believe there are rats and mice scurrying around since it is flat-up against the food court in the mall and there are never rodent sightings in the food court. That having been said, it is a run-of-the-mill, utterly ordinary multiplex currently operated by AMC that shows the same tired mainstream studio movies as every other mall multiplex in the US, with the tedium broken by the occasional Hindi/Bollywood film. The bathrooms are clean if you go at noon on a Tuesday and probably not so clean at 10 PM on a Saturday night. The screens are not gigantic, but then again, this is a multiplex inside a mall--I don't know what you could possibly expect. The seats are standard movie theater seats. The concessions sell what they sell. The staff is exactly who you would expect it to be--younger people, older semiretired people, and none of them are polite OR rude--they are probably secretly wishing death on all of us as they work their crappy job for $8 an hour and I don't expect anything more or less from them than a bag of popcorn and a floor that isn't too sticky. I think we all need to get hold of ourselves when writing reviews of chain movie theaters and manage our expectations...

With a renovated mall and a decent food court, Newport mall with close proximity to New York city and Manhattan is a must visit hangout to do all the last minute shopping and dining in a very relaxed manner. For all those staying in this part of the region, the convenience of movie going experience is greatly signified by this movie theatre. Ample car park and online ordering of tickets to other modern day convenience makes choices very easier. Must visit.

Blast from the past - a review from 1988
This was a very modern styled cinema which openec on December 18, 1987 with 9-screens. Typical of those situated in a shopping mall, but two or three of the cinemas were the largest I have ever seen in a theatre located in a mall, and most of them had curtains that open before every presentation (which I dont think any first run movie theatre does anymore in the state of New Jersey). As you enter the theatre you pass the concession and box office which are on the top floor food court area of the mall. The first six auditoriums located on either side. As you come to the remaing cinemas they are much larger and the sound is better. The last time I visited this theatre was 1988 and it was nice place to see a movie considering it was in the mall. I haven’t been there since so I wouldn’t know what condition it’s in now but it’s still open and has been operated by Loews, and now by AMC. In 1996 it was expended...
