Out the four major parks in the Jersey City Heights, Leonard Gordon park, unfortunately has to be the worst of them all when it comes to maintenance, cleanliness, and overall aesthetical feel. Many of the old Buffalo statues have gone in disrepair and have worn over the decades where their colors have all but faded, and may of the other statues have needed to be remove for safety reasons, while there is no interest from the cities government to repair ore replace them. The walkways and road are in dire need of repair, as you can't go more than a few feet without encountering a crack, broke or otherwise missing tile. Because of this, many of the walkways are filled with mud as nature starts to reclaim them due to the lack of maintenance. The Gazebo, once upon a time being one of the outstanding structures of the parks, has degraded over time to a state of disrepair, with the roof missing, floor worn out, and steps being hazardous to walk up and down from. The Basketball and Tennis courts, although not as bad as the roads and the gazebo, also need updating. The Metal fence has parts of it that has oxidizes, the courts are broken in certain areas, and the net needs new stitching. Despite all of this, the one redeeming feature of Leonard Gordon park, is the garden that cane be seen along Kennedy Blvd. which can be a beautiful sight to see in fall and spring. There is a reason why for many years the locals have fallen to call this site "Mosquito Park", due to the lack of repairs and maintenance, it is possibly the Jersey City Height's...
Read moreMy kids love this. It's really a very nice park. Well managed, but my today's experience was very bad because someone has stolen my electric G2 Goterax scooter. And the sad part was someone is very sneaky because he/she has done such things even I couldn't even realize when someone was trying to steal it. I was sitting at top where the bear statue and grass are working on my computer and my scooter was down. Or maybe such types of people are smart and maybe doing these activities regularly. Today someone has stolen my scooter. If safety doesn't come to the picture it's very hard to control such activities. In my opinion all exit/entrance should have CCTV camera. I encourage everyone and including myself should be very careful. Hope this news maybe helpful for all. I wanted to share because I don't want any bad things to happen with anyone else ...
Read moreA small park with a lot of potential during the day. Very, VERY sketchy at night but if the people living in the neighborhood call attention to the problem people then those problems will, eventually, go away. I've seen lots of people here doing cardio exercises all through the day and an effort by the Leonard Gordon Conservancy is underway to plant flowers in the park for beautification. Sadly, some people have decided to steal or vandalize the plants. Why are they so selfish? Anyway, it's a nice park and you can expect to find daytime, afternoon or early evening events here as part of a community effort. There are a few courts for soccer, tennis or basketball. A playground focused on kids under 10, some walking path circuits and some nice greenery in the Heights. It's worth...
