It was a 5-star when it was open and will update when it does. Before its closure in 2020, it was a nice hidden getaway and oasis from the city in the middle of Jersey City. This 14-acre space is a New Jersey and National Register of Historic Places built between 1871 and 1874.
It looks like phase 1 has started and a sign was put up about a pedestrian bridge. When it is completed the proposal says there will be lawns, a seating area, a wetland garden, areas for fishing, water access, and a kayak launch ramp. Cannot wait to see its completion but who is paying for all this upgrade with the already unconscionable property tax hikes š¤·š (rating: 1 star)
May 2024 Update There is movement and progress with the renovations in the reservoir! A pedestrian bridge with benches have been built! š (changed to 2 stars)
Sept. 17, 2024 Update It has re-opened. The gravel path lines the perimeter of the reservoir and there is a single picnic table at the southwest corner. Signs posted stating remediation is still needed so we will have to wait until thatās completed for the rest of the reservoir and amenities to be opened. It is nice to have the walking/running path and we will have to wait to see what will be added. (Changed to 3 stars)
Nov. 12, 2024 Update The city put cones and painted new crossing walk lines at that small entrance to bring attention and to slow vehicles down on that tiny street that is supposed to be...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreWell, there's good news. The park is now open!
The character of the park has changed drastically. If you are a person like me, one who hates city life and wants unadulterated nature to be part of your daily life, regular visits to Reservoir 3 were a vital part of your week.
The renovations have been completed and they definitely make the park more accessible and safe for your average city dweller. They also appear to be trying to clean the water and pond bed to mitigate the century of illegal dumping and pollution, and for that I am greatful.
They've removed too many trees for my taste but if that's what is needed to be done to make it less of a place for the homeless and gangs to congregate at night, well again, that's what had to be done.
But that's all fine with me! I have moved away and friends have alerted me to the reopening of the park. I have found my happy place in the mountains on the West Coast.
Enjoy the new park! They have worked hard on it and refusing to use it because it's "not what it used to be" in the eyes of one jerk on the internet would be a greater waste than it being closed permanently.
FYI the park closed for renovations on April 17th, 2021 so to date it was closed forĀ 3 years, 4 months, 3...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreBest place for a nature walk in Jersey City, outside of Liberty State Park. Iāve seen so many species of birds here, itās beautiful. The trees and greenery makes it relaxing and a perfect place to walk around and get your miles in. I love having this peaceful green space nearby. The dirt path makes it feel like youāre taking a walk amongst the trees rather than a city walkway.
My only qualm is that people walk their dogs here A LOT and unfortunately some people donāt clean up after their dogs. The pathway is quite narrow, super narrow in some places, and canāt accommodate more than one person at a time. And even though thereās a sign that says no bike riding you occasionally get bike riders kicking up dirt. So between the runners, strollers and dogs (sometimes off lease) itās not as relaxing as it could be during...
