Favorable reviews brought us to “The Heights” of Jersey City in search of a Perúvian meal. Upon first inspection, only a Perúvian flag suggested we would find one. Otherwise, In keeping with its name, the place resembled a pizzeria—which it is, inter alia.
More than the owner’s assurances, the plates that soon arrived at our table—causa limeña, papás a la Huancaína, tamal, and alfajores—erased any doubts about the kitchen’s commitment to producing good food: Perúvian, Italian (-American?), and in a few cases, a combination of the two. “Fusion” at Ragazzo (including pizza topped with lomo saltado) seemed thoughtful and well executed, though we did not venture into that wing of an interesting and surprisingly deep menu.
Alongside such experiments, connoisseurs of Perúvian food will find typical dishes such as chorros a la Chalaca—a nod to the chef’s hometown, El Callao—lomo saltado, bistec con tallarínes verdes, a variety of ceviches, etc.
One caveat: one might expect coffee in a restaurant called Ragazzo, but there was none to be had, only tea. Given the quality of the food, hardly a...
Read more1 star is for takeout service. First time I ordered takeout via Slice app, app said order was ready and when I get there they say 5 minutes, took almost 20 minutes to get my food. I figure they're working out the kinks and decide to give them another shot.
Same exact thing second time. I get there for pickup AND gave them 1 hr heads up with the scheduled pickup. As soon as I get there, 5 minutes. 5 more minutes. 5 more minutes. Took 20 minutes for a scheduled pickup order.
It's a shame because the food is good, but the pickup service sucks and I have 0 interest in giving them a 3rd chance.
I wouldn't be as annoyed if it weren't for the fact both times the app said my order was ready for pickup and it wasn't. I hate getting my...
Read moreI recently had an amazing dinner at Ragazzo, a unique Peruvian and Italian fusion restaurant. The combination of cuisines might sound unusual, but it works perfectly. I highly recommend the Tallerine Verde with steak. The steak was seasoned perfectly and had a great smoky, grilled flavor that paired wonderfully with the creamy green pasta. We also tried the Lomo Saltado, which was equally impressive. The flavors were bold and the meat was incredibly tender. The portions were generous, the prices were fair, and the food was truly flavorful. Ragazzo is a fantastic spot for anyone looking for...
