This center has a magnificent display of historic Kenosha with many artifacts from the early days. Of great interest are exhibits on the Bain Wagon Company and Simmons Factory from the 1800s. Most importantly it has many archives and experts that can assist you with historical research. Archivist Cynthia Nelson and docent Jeff are both a wealth of information if you are doing historical research or need assistance with genealogical information. They were just wonderful to us. The location is beautiful out by the historic lighthouse. We can’t say enough great things about these folks. And only 15% of their collection is on display. There is no fee but if you have it give them a big donation so that they can continue to expand. Many thanks to them.

visited a few weeks ago to kill some time before my next stop in the area. nice place to walk around. organized exhibits, many interactive. they have a penny presser machine so bring your change!! volunteer tim (sorry, that might be the wrong name) was extremely helpful and knowledgeable. he offered additional material to help expand my knowledge of the area and provided information on guided walking tours- even going so far as to print details out for me! appreciated the kindness & unexpected stellar service from staff. for a free museum i have 0 complaints.

I wanted to go see the lighthouse but it was closed until May so he took a tour. Having lived here all my life and being a history buff I still learned a lot here! My daughters were even impressed; everybody knows the cool history of Nash and AMC.. put so much more came out of this little town! I mean I did know about the typewriter and the QWERTY keyboard but no idea about Simmons mattresses. And a few other things go there yourself and find out

I was delighted to have stumbled across this charming, chock full of history, treasure. A first-time visitor to Wisconsin, I was limited in the time I was able to spend. My intent was to simply visit the gift shop to purchase a few mementos. I was greeted warmly by two staff, one of whom provided an in-depth tour of the museum. I’m still marvelling at the depth of knowledge that was generously shared with me. My regret is that I didn’t have enough time to spend there. This museum was one of the...
