Sunshine Scooters picked us up from the Key West Express boat and brought us to pick up the golf cart. The gentleman who picked us up was very friendly and gave us excellent dining options when we asked.

The golf cart ran great, it was clean, no problems with it.

This is what I personally learned from my experience renting a golf cart in Key West it’s a fun way to get around but an expensive way to get around. Within 30 minutes of picking up the golf cart we went to park it, while trying to pay for parking a police officer came to ticket it. Thankfully we seen him and told him we were trying to pay for parking, the officer informed us there is No street parking on Saturday!! It became quite a hassle to park the golf cart and expensive for overnight parking. Would I rent one again, probably not, it’s just too much of a headache. If you do rent one I would only rent it for one day to check out the area. It’s not any cheaper to rent a golf cart vs a car, parking costs the same, the hassle of finding parking is the same. We did have fun with it until we needed to find parking and had to continuously feed the parking location with money. Key West is small enough to walk even if you rent a golf cart you will need to walk once you find a place to park, not to mention having to keep an eye on the clock to feed the meter. If you are looking to rent something I’d highly recommend a bicycle.

Be sure to qualify what "all day" really means. When we picked up our cart, we were told to return it 2 hours earlier than the initial time, or we would have to return it at their location over 2 miles away. When I asked about the shuttle service mentioned on their website, I was told they only shuttle from the hotel and airport, no cruise ships. What a wonderful bit of information to leave off a website. The person doing the check out/in process certainly had the personality of a shoebox. He "barked" instructions at us like we were a group of 1st graders, and essentially demanded that we pay the extra 20 bucks liability coverage insurance. He "threatened" us stating that we would have to pay for any damages and that it would be charged directly to my credit card on file. He went on to say that no auto or homeowners insurance would be accepted, so apparently he is a lawyer as well. When we returned the cart, several guys were in the back lot cleaning carts. After almost being run over by their shuttle driver right there in their driveway, we pulled in behind the building where we were told to go, the cleanup crew started barking orders at us like we were incapable of parking a golf cart. 10⭐ I've been coming to key west for the past five or so years, I always rent from Sunshine scooters. They are very professional and kind. I was staying in big pine Key and rented a scooter for the week. Since I couldn't drive the scooter off Key West I would drop it off at Sunshine scooter every night before leaving, get my truck, and head back to Big Pine Key. Parking was free and I could park there all day. I notice most scooter rental companies on the island rent old outdated scooters that look unsafe. Sunshine scooters are always in good shape, are new, and I see them doing regular maintenance on the scooters. I was laughing because I parked next to one guy who was struggling to start his scooter, it was busted and looked super raggedy. I tried to help him but the scooter was just so busted, you could tell never had maintenance or nothing, tires were super bald, he said he was glad to return it later. I looked at my scooter and it looked like a million bucks, started up everytime no problems EVER. I was sad to turn it back in because all the fun we had with it.
