I so agree with Dana Moore. I have been to Escape Game Knoxville on several occasions and enjoyed it so much that intend to go back. Even though the business is in downtown Knoxville, I had no trouble finding parking that was just a short distance from the building. In fact the building is surrounded by parking lots. My experiences there have consistently been very enjoyable and the professional staff have been so very friendly and helpful. We were greeted upon entering with a warm welcome from the Gamemaster. I’m sorry Jesse Williams claims to have had a bad experience but I have not had that happen and honestly, I have to question if she is talking about the same Escape Game in Knoxville I visit. On our first visit there, I asked about each of the games in order to choose the one my team felt confident in playing (this was my first Escape Room experience and seeing The Purge at 10% success rate helped our team choose a room that was mid range in success rates due to these being my first two experiences and good for the other members of my team). From what I’ve experienced in Once Upon a Time and The Villains Lair, help and assistance were readily available at the touch of a button of our Lifeline. Clues or hints were immediately given when requested. Sometimes our GameMaster threw us a free hint when he saw us floundering which would point us back into the right direction. When playing The Villains Lair, I saw a sign saying I would die if I opened the window and fell out (Which I appreciated as I wanted to live and return to play more games here!) and another asking us not to remove items from the bulletin board in the room. Again I appreciated that as I did not want to waste my time removing something which was not going to reveal anything else. In summary, I highly recommend Escape Game Knoxville to anyone looking for a fun and challenging time!
2.Commenting on a post by Jared Huisingh: So far now I have experienced two games at EGK, Once Upon a Time and Villians Lair. I find them to be fun and challenging. I am not sure what Jared Huisingh’s comment about “the overall experience lacked a commitment to the story” references though. I thought most of the puzzles and clues had a magical theme concept to them which fairy tales and enchanted forests are about such as performing an act in the room which might cause “magical things” to happen. Both of the rooms I experienced were very creative and had unique surprises relating to the theme of the room. I’m wondering how far along Jared’s group got before time ran out or did...
Read moreMy daughter is paralyzed from the waist down (recently in the last 2 yrs.) to celebrate her 22nd birthday she decided she wanted to go to an Escape room. Naturally given her condition, I called to make SURE that the Villain's room was handicapped accessible, specifically wheel chair accessible. I was told absolutely and to go ahead a book the reservation, which I did. They day came to load up my daughter and head off the Escape room (2 hours away) only to arrive and not see any ramp to the building. We parked, and called to find out where the ramp was and was told there was no ramp and most people in wheel chairs are "carried up" the stairs. I found this to be an unacceptable answer (rude and degrading to say the least) and went inside. There was a young woman inside (who would not supply her name) who told me repeatedly, that we were told correctly on the phone that "The rooms where handicapped accessible" I replied, but if you can’t "access" the building then you can’t "access" the rooms. She said the building isn't accessible but the correct information was given about the rooms.... Really? She again asked if there was anyone with us that could carry my daughter up the LARGE set of stairs to the building. I am so thankful my daughter did not hear this suggestion as it was unbelievable and degrading. I again stressed my point that you should not claim the games are accessible if the building the games are housed in is NOT! I then asked for my money back, as we were certainly not carrying my daughter up the stairs. I was told there were no refunds and I could give my tickets to someone else, like a friend. I told her I would not be sending any business their way, ever! And again, voiced my concern about the refund. I asked again for the name of the young lady working (she would not give it again) I also asked for a phone number I could call to speak to someone about a refund, again she refused. My point is this: If you are not fully handicapped accessible do NOT claim you are! If someone makes a mistake and tells a customer you are, only to find out you aren't, simply refund the money. We arrived on time, on our reservation day. Through no fault of our own, we were unable to use our tickets. Customer service went from BAD to AWFUL and completely INEXCUSABLE. Read moreSome positive things - the seasonal theme was different (we did the Christmas one) and it was cool that they came up with one especially for the holiday season! It looked to be a nice local business.
But we've done a lot of escape rooms and this one left a lot to be desired.... A few things: (1) they actually forgot to erase notes from the previous group that had been in the room (on the white board), so we had some clues already laid out for us, (2) rather than give us "hints", they actually just told us (in detail) how to solve puzzles we were stuck on - in most rooms we've done they give you a little clue and let you continue to work on it, then only tell you what to do if you're really stuck or something isn't working right, (3) each puzzle relied on solving the previous puzzle to work on the next, so if you have multiple people in the room, you're all working on the same thing - it was fine if you had say, 3 people in the room, but any more than that, and people were kind of standing around bored while a couple of people worked out the current puzzle (we had 7 people, so it didn't work very well), (4) at the end, they sent us a photo with a caption that we didn't escape even though we did - a careless mistake, but felt a little indicative of the experience at that point, (5) the room was pretty basic - usually each room has at least one element of surprise or some feature that is unique and memorable, this one didn't have anything like that, and (6) it didn't seem like our game master was paying too much attention to us - when we asked for a clue, she didn't seem to know where we were and at times gave away too much in asking what we had done already. She seemed nice enough, but maybe she just had her hands too full?
It could be that the other non-seasonal rooms were better thought out, but I'd probably try another escape room in Knoxville before going back here...
