Berger (Albert) Park — Attraction in Lake View Township

I'm a photographer and I did a photo shoot here. The revetment stones have weeds that have been growing through them for years which are now turning into small trees. There's a very small rope fence separating the very uneven and eroding walkway from the stones that looks pretty bad and is a fall hazard. The tall apartment buildings surrounding look very 1960s dated but contrasted against the more hip playground, it makes for a confused scene. Looking north, the buildings and fencing are very unattractive.

Looking south, it's better. There's a chest high colorfully decorated wall next to the playground (mosaic) and some low bushes, trees and minimal landscaping next to the mansion/restaurant. The view of the lake is awesome and wide and the overall feel of the park/restaurant is hip and pleasant. Unfortunately, there's a single tall light pole in the middle of it all that ruins the cleanish view.

Nice place to visit in the summer. OK for photos, but you have to choose your framing...

Last evening I took a short walk down to Berger Park to view the Chicago Fire Works display taking place down at Navy Pier. I first noticed a side walk entrance thru a gate, so I entered cautiously, and found groups of people nestled up on the shoreline rocks, viewing the display down shoreline to my right. I came upon a gap where I imagined I might grasp a seat on a rock to partake of the view. Our favorite park in the neighborhood! The view is the best and it’s accessible for kids of all ages and abilities. The cultural center puts on events in the summer so there’s always something going on. They also have a lot of activities for both kids and adults throughout the year. Plus, they have bathrooms available while playing at the park which is a huge plus! We recently rented out the dining room/sun room in the building for our 5 year old’s birthday party and it was perfect!
