Simply put some of the best Middle Eastern food in the city, and for the price it can't be beaten. This is the same type of quality that you find in the better Middle Eastern restaurants up in Skokie and Evanston, but it's at the Granville EL stop. I always judge a restaurant by the quality of its tabouli and hummus. If those are great then the rest of the food will also be as great. Getting the seasoning perfect on a tabouli is difficult with all the combinations. I have never had a sweet tabouli before and that's because they used very sweet lemons. As you eat the tabouli that sweetness gives way to the savory taste of green onion, tomato, parsley, a small amount of bulgar wheat, extra virgin olive oil and salt. I was blown away. Likewise, the hummus is of a perfect consistency and flavor. I will become a regular at this place because the food is so healthy. I had the shawarma and a gyros and both were excellent. Many times most places will overcook the meat and make it hard and brown. This was succulent. They have great falafel as well. It's a little on the spicy side: so if you like that, it'll be a nice surprise! You will not be displeased. If you're looking for a dining experience (minus the pricey rent on atmosphere), you just landed on cloud 9. It's very clean, very bright inside and the people are extremely cheerful. But if you need to sit down at a table with atmosphere, you need to go north. I'd rather have the great food at a great price and know that I'm getting great food every time. I can't say enough good things...
Read moreChicken shawarma and fries here are fantastic! I found beef shawarma a little bland. The gyro is also pretty good. The portions of the platters are huge, hummus is quite well made, sauces are great as well. We got takeout for two people and it took them about half hour to prepare our order, the restaurant wasn’t packed either just a few tables were occupied. But I saw them shave the shawarmas per order and not pre cut and let it sit on the hot plate, which I appreciate, that must be adding to the preparation time. We also tried the stuffed grape leaves, I must say this is a delicate dish and it was well executed. My complaint about it was that it wasn’t flavorful enough. I know everyone in the levant makes them differently, this kind didn’t work for me. I would expect to see more warm spices, more sweetness, etc. The restaurant itself looks a little tired, almost rundown and not cozy like. I know they only opened last year so that’s weird to me. Also there was not a single smiling face in the staff but it was also end of the shift so I will give them the benefit of the doubt. Overall I would say come here for the quality and the quantity of the food, not...
Read moreI thoroughly enjoy visiting this neighbourhood middle Eastern restaurant because it is quick and casual. It is counter order and no server - that said, they do bring your food out to you at your table, but you are asked to return the plates and baskets to their bins by the trashcan. Another reason I like this place a lot is that the prices are reasonable with a good portion size...which is hard to day these days post-pandemic!
The kababs are cooked to order and are seasoned perfectly for grill. Everything is tender and succulent when they come out.
I also love their chicken shawarma because the chicken is so flavourful and the lebanonese style wrap is comes in rather than a pita is my preferred way of enjoying the dish.
I also love their salads - whether it be the tabbouleh or the baba ganoush or hummus.
This is definitely one of my walk in the neighbourhood to get a bite to eat places...
