Frandor Shopping Center has seen some improvements, but it still falls short in several key areas. After decades of extracting value without contributing meaningfully the sears still lays abandoned, they've finally addressed the parking lot drainage issue however, which now prevents flooding and helps the watershed, though it's hard to celebrate basic maintenance that took so long to comply with the bare minimum scientificaly proven flood prevention option. And the all natural one. The hours are inconsistent day to day and unaffordably priced(excluding liquidation of asset sales here), with crosswalks poorly marked, leading to tension with drivers who seem more interested in having the right of way than ensuring pedestrian safety.
While the shops here are decent, they’re overpriced, and the lack of services or safety drives away many potential customers. The road infrastructure around Frandor is a mess and lack of subsidized public transit, in conjunction with very poorly installed magnetic sensors and yield signs that make entering and exiting hazardous. Despite taking two years to build, the newly installed boulevard is already in disrepair, and no one is inspecting or maintaining it regularly.
There are also troubling social issues in the area, such as the harassment of visitors to Planned Parenthood by protesters. The center’s failure to create a safe, family-friendly environment is evident, especially considering the lack of public bathrooms and the criminalization of homelessness.
Frandor's management has neglected to address these concerns, and the center lacks proper oversight. It’s clear that until they make real improvements—both in service and safety—many shoppers will continue to seek...
Read moreShopped at the Kroger Store. They've redone the self checkouts. Moved them next to the customer service booth. & new style of self checkout registers. At time of visit (late afternoon) there was only one non-self checkout open, & a cashier at customer service booth (now no longer ringing up groceries at customer service booth [supposedly due to covid] but can't figure what covid has to due with checking out of groceries at customer service??? In any case , the check out lane at customer service booth was full, & after waiting 10 or 15 minutes for people socializing with the customer service booth cashier while figuring out what lotto numbers to play or why their playing certain numbers. just as I got to being next to be checked out, I saw the paper taped up stating no food checked out at the CS Booth. & there was a long line at the non-self checkout which I would have to had used (due to using my special purchasing for groceries card from my healthcare insurance) I had already wasted 20-30 minutes in line at customer service booth, so if I wanted to purchase anything I'd have to wait approximately as long at the checkout as I can't use card at the self checkout. so I put all my intended purchases back & left. As it was late on Sunday afternoon and public transportation stops running at 6pm & I needed to make a transfer to a second bus in order to get home. it was going on 5pm then so it was going to be tight to catch next bus & make transfer(being last run of day) in order to get home. wasn't very happy about my shopping trip that was fruitless. (no...
Read moreThis place is a landmark from my childhood that I don’t think will ever disappear. Tho the businesses Frandor is home to often change with time, the shopping center remains full of those essential stores that people always flock to… it’s always convenient to make a trip to Michaels for an art project, Kroger for groceries, Liberty Coin to make a quick buck, or one of the many other assorted businesses available to shop at… there are eateries, pet supplies, outdoor necessities…
All in all, convenient.
I’m only giving 4 stars because I hate things that make me nostalgic. It’s hard to go to Frandor without seeing the places that once were there & the memories I made at each of those establishments. I hate how something as benign as a business closing is another marker of the passage of time. I miss the video rental store & my friends old tattoo shop. i miss Trippers & I miss the skate shop & I miss when people actually had fun sledding down that giant hill in Frandor.
Sorry if this review was long winded. At least...
