Last updated Dec. 29, 2024: 4.7 Stars and still a Great place to shop! Nice, nice, nice!! (It's tamales & bunuelos season!!)
It's HEB, if you don't buy here, then go to any Walmart Supercenter. For special items and more international foods try Gucci B (HEB Del Mar Blvd & McPherson or HEB la carpa at San Dario & Calton Rd.)
Sure, there are other places and favorites too, but these guys have competitive low prices and they accept coupons. Plus, you can use the bank, customer service, beauty salon, gas station, etc. depending upon the store.
For HEB, Walmart, & most of Laredo, no more plastic bag ban & the stores are back to providing you with a bag. Be prepared to wait in line during peak hours of the week. (Hey, being busy is a good thing! It means the current products get bought and then new ones get put on the shelves or in the bins. Less spoiled vegetables and fruits compared to some of the smaller, local, grocery stores.) Although, the small grocery stores serve a purpose too...local convenience.
Money orders: be prepared to provide them with more personal information. They ask for your ID and SSN if you get a big money order amount. Yes, even if you pay in cash versus a debit card.
They are starting to look like a mix of Gucci-B and the HEB Central Market in San Antonio. Keep it up! Martha Stewart says: "that's a good thing!"
Weak area: Special items to stock. It eventually got there, but then that department didn't restock it as well as the HEB Del Mar Blvd/I35 branch. I'll place a special request via their HEB app. instead. I'll let corporate handle it.
FYI: speaking of the HEB app. If you can't find an item. Instead of wandering around the entire store or looking for an HEB rep., try searching for your product on the HEB app. It'll tell you the aisle, price, etc. Just make sure you select the correct HEB store.
¡Bonito, bonito, bonito!
Read moreThis applies specifically to the HEB unit off of McPherson and Bob Bullock in Laredo.
The local Unit Manager's decision to start enforcing the ban on truck parking in HEB parking lot is going to be a financial detriment to the HEB chain.
The local competitor (Wal-Mart) allows Truck Drivers (Bobtail) in their lot and the drivers will readily spend their hard earned money in that store instead of HEB.
An average of 50 trucks used to stop in the HEB parking lot on a daily basis, using my last visit a basis for comparison, I went into the store and purchased $80.00 in groceries.
If just 50% of the drivers are spending at least 50% of my purchases on a daily basis. HEB is possibly going to LOSE upwards of $2,000 in possible sales on a daily basis.
Those 2k in lost daily sales, multiply to 60k per month and a possible 720k in lost sales on an annual basis.
I wonder how the HEB corporate team will accept the local unit managers explanation for the 720k in lost sales that will now be spent at Wal-Mart...
Update (1/24/24): HEB has not reversed their policy, but they are NOT enforcing it stringently as before. They are allowing Bob Tail Trucks to park, but...
Read moreTraveling from out of town and wanted a simple wedding cake.. went to bakery yesterday to order a 3 tier white cake with nothing on it since they said they didn’t have Anything! No flowers or sprinkles. So I settled for the simplest white cake and a 2 tier German Chocolate. The baker gave me a quote if $600!! To me that’s ridiculous! Why does H‑E‑B have wedding cakes online if the baker does not want to work? She kept telling the other girls no to every question I had and to brush me off she gave me that Quote! Then she would look at me and give me a very sarcastic smile. I was Ashamed with my husband who is from Kingsville where everyone is absolutely pleasant to talk and work with! Our Walmart baker has even made me cakes that are not on their books at the last minute. I just wanted a very simple cake! Never been to this H‑E‑B before so it’s such a shame that I got this type of attitude from the baker. I ended up paying a lady to make the cake I actually wanted for...
