The event itself at the Las Cruces Convention Center was well executed, but I cannot recommend this venue due to how they handled a serious scam connected to my event. I paid the convention center over $20,000 for my event, and during the planning process I believed I was corresponding with my event coordinator, Marisa Robles. I paid invoices she sent me, but I later learned her email had been hacked and that I had actually been communicating with a scammer. As a result, I unknowingly sent $2,353.99 via Zelle to a fraudulent account.
After the scam, it was extremely challenging to determine whether I was corresponding with the scammer or the actual convention center staff. I continued receiving updated invoices, and when I questioned one of them, Marisa Robles told me that it was part of the scam. She admitted they knew the scam was happening but did not inform me because they “didn’t know who was being scammed.” This lack of communication left me vulnerable to further losses and created even more confusion about what was legitimate and what was not.
Eventually, I received a check for $259.62 for “overpaid taxes,” but this only came after I questioned the situation. To this day, I am still unclear about the legitimacy of the invoices I received and why I was left in the dark while the scam was ongoing.
When I asked for help, General Manager Gregory Wagner offered no meaningful support. My requests for a final breakdown of event costs, clarification of invoices, and information on whether their insurance could cover any of the loss were ignored or dismissed. Their lack of accountability, transparency, and responsiveness after such a serious issue was very disappointing.
While the event itself was well executed, the aftermath has completely overshadowed it. If you plan to host an event here, be extremely cautious with financial communications — don’t expect support if...
Read moreUpdate: Visited the convention center on 5/9/25 and the ADA entrance door is still not operating and locked. Posted a video for reference.
Update: I arrived with my mother for a Naturalization Ceremony on 3/7/25 and again even though my review was about 2 years old, the ADA entrance door still does not operate and is locked. I find this be a huge issue for those that require ADA accessibility.
Old Review:
It's a beautiful convention center, and I really love the setups. I often come for U.S. Naturalization ceremonies and a few other times for celebrations. My only issue with this convention center is the buttons for the handicap accesible door either never work or that door specifically is always locked when I arrive. I find this to be a major issue when attending the convention center. I'd easily provide a five-star rating if it was not for this concern.
Thankfully, l'm always with my mother when I arrive, but I think about those who may not be with anyone and are stuck with trying to find a way to open the...
Read moreLazy workers. Special Olympics event held and they don't have enough chairs. People are sitting on the floor, let me remind you this is special Olympic event! The athletes have disabilities, so chairs are needed! Took it upon myself to grab chairs from the back, there is NO SIGNAGE stating I couldn't go down the hallway, yet a worker yells across the hall at me. Instead of talking to me about it, he cries to one of the event staff about the chair. Mentioning if they needed chairs, they could tell them to grab some, but IF THE STAFF DOES THEIR JOB, THERE WOULDN'T BE NO NEED TO GET CHAIRS FOR SPECIAL NEED ATHLETES WHO'VE BEEN STANDING FOR HOURS SINCE THE MORNING! it's clear and visible of individuals standing and sitting on the floor, because there's no chairs. Staff is lazy and didn't...
