A HIDDEN TREASURE IN LEAD! I live in Deadwood and keep seeing reviews on the Lead Dog Park where people seem to think that the dog park is the concrete PARKING LOT for the park - it isn't. Follow the signs to the dog park and once you park you will see a steep uphill slant on the left side of the parking lot (left as you enter the lot). This leads up to the actual dog park. The area is a bit steep and a great place to exercise your dogs. I like to hike to the highest point and then throw the ball downhill for my border collie mixes to retrieve! The park is completely fenced in and the view is amazing. If you walk through the lower area of the park, the gate at the furthest end leads to a series of hiking trails (dogs are supposed to be leashed on the trails). Read moreI have lived in Lead for over 12 years, and everyone knows how small this town is. A few years ago I started hearing rumors of a place for dogs to go and play. Read moreNice dog park located on a hill overlooking the old Homestake Mine. Careful pulling in to and out of the parking lot because it's a little narrow. It seems some visitors aren't the best at cleaning up after their dogs which is a shame - please be responsible and take care of public spaces - If you continue along the parking lot side fence you will come to a gate that leads to a ~4.5 mile trail (Homestake Trail) you can take all the way to Deadwood or just do an out and back length of your choice. It is a rough hiking trail so wear appropriate footwear/clothes for a hike. The trail switchbacks up and down hillsides so it...
