I have noticed no one talked about docking at the wharf so the water depth is normally between 4.5 and 5 feet deep right at the wharf now the closer you get to the beginning of the wharf the less water as power boaters have silted in some of the wharf with their wash I have brought both a 27 and 34 foot sailboat in here with 4 foot keels on both I believe the wharf is about 60 to 70 feet in length so you can only fit maybe 2 to 3 boats on the wharf also I have found that if you want to plug in there is a lamp post that has a regular 110 plug on the back of it that is not locked so if you had the right adapters you could plug in after people leave for the day as your cord would stretch across the path also the bath house in the spring summer and fall closes around 10pm ish and was told the woman's restroom has a shower in it so for the women that's good lastly I would not recommend staying more than one night as it is a free dock and I would like to keep it that way it is about 5 nm from the main Potomac river up a small river also on the last bend you will notice a farm on the left going up the river that looks like the Bob Evens restaurant farm almost forgot there is a gas station at the top of the hill from the wharf I believe its a Shell and there is also a Ledos pizza not to far away and a few other restaurants and cafes in the main square you could also take a uber or lyft to a Walmart maybe 10 min car ride away and I do think there is a grocery store less than a mile from the wharf
bottom line is if you need a place to resupply going up the Potomac or going down it is not a bad place to stop I even think there is a water tap next to a bush that is sometimes kept unlocked you could get water at not sure I would drink it but non the less its there
You could even stay a few days but I would recommend anchoring out in Brenton bay at least for the night again as there is no sign stating how long you can stay on the wharf and I would like it to stay free and open to the public so don't abuse it and there are garbage cans in the park so don't make a mess and I even believe there is a dumpster not to far away also please don't think you can park your boat there and just live for weeks or months on the wharf like I said one night at a time is fine that's all ive ever stayed here for and have had no problems I even had some nice cops come over and see if anyone was bothering me they also like to park at the parking lot but they have never asked me to leave of move so lets keep it that way
let me know if you have...
Read moreA great park to bring kids or just to come here to hang out with friends. Close and convenient in terms of distance to downtown Leonardtown, however there is a rather steep hill one may encounter while walking from here to Leonardtown. There is a restroom block here that is tended to regularly and is very clean, there is also a short and well kept boardwalk here that stretches along the shores of Breton bay, along with interesting information boards about Leonardtown, the arrival of the British colonists, local wildlife, and local life around Southern Maryland. There is also a park where kids of about 7 or under can play (but hey, if you're older I dont judge) and a large field where you can bring dogs, also there are benches which are awesome to watch the...
Read moreThis past weekend (5-6Aug2023) was a singular experience with the addition of Mama Duck (the world's largest rubber duck) to the population of Leonardtown. The Wharf itself was not entirely visible because of this 60' behemoth. Outside of Wharf-fest, the park is a quaint, well maintained, multi-purpose space with sufficient parking for mid-day stops and within walking distance of the "center" of Leonardtown. I've visited to sit on a bench and watch the bay as well as used it as a launching spot for kayaks and stand-up paddle boards. There have been food trucks down there periodically and like I said, it's a short walk up the hill to some nice local...
