HobbyTown — Attraction in Lewisville

The reviews say knowledgeable staff but everytime I asked a price they had to ask someone else or acted liked they didn't know which object I was pointing at.I am very disappointed in service received there.I have been in several times browsing b/c I am looking for a hobby for my son and I.I have never had anyone ask to help or find out my interest there.I tried website but I am still confused and need help.I finally took my son and we planned on purchasing 2 rc cars but Noone helped us or really seemed to be interested besides a customer who gave me a few tips.I wish I would have exchanged numbers with him.We ended up purchasing one about $179 but wanted one that was over $200.I kept inquiring about it a real helpful employee like reviews says would have shown me and answered any questions and got me to leave with it.I would have taken 1 for me and 1 for son. Couldn't get Ps5 so we were going for a hobby instead. I spend 200+ on my shoes so cars would be better investments. I even complained in a nice pleasant way to lady that rang me up. She said I should go to a location further away and maybe I could get help there b/c she works there. I'm thinking why when you couldn't help me here.All I wanted was a little help with explaining speeds and pricing so I could start giving them all my money. This hobby doesn't seem to be cheap so I just don't want to throw away money.I guess the 170 was enough for them. If it were busy I would understand but I even waited until we were last in store with with atleast 6 employees. I guess maybe we didn't look like their normal customers we don't get that service. I wanted to buy a Traxxas Rustler XL-5 for my sons for Christmas. I had already done months of research and knew what I wanted. I walked into Hobby Town in Lewisville TX and asked the sales associate for the XL-5. He immediately downplayed the XL-5 and insisted I wanted the VXL instead. When I tried to bring the conversation back to the XL-5, very short replies. Frustrated, I left and went to a local competitor who gave me great service and a cheaper price than Hobby Town.

Fast forward to this week, I wanted some new wheels and needed a front spring support cup, so I thought I would give Hobby Town a try again. The first thing I noticed was the overpriced wheels (wanted proline dirt hawgs). I then asked for the RPM spring cup. I was told RPM doesn't sell the spring cups, and was immediately under pressure to buy all new shocks. Again, I had done my research and knew RPM in fact sold the spring cups. I left, went again to the local competitor. I was able to get the dirt hawg wheels, the RPM spring cups, a sway bar, and upgraded pins for less than Hobby Town was selling the wheels.

I've tried twice to give Hobby Town my business, but their poor customer service, pressured up-sells, and high prices have pushed me away. Unless I'm in desperate need, I won't be going back. (gave 2 stars instead of 1 for the...

Awesome selection and very helpful staff. Kobe was very good and one of the most helpful staff members I have experienced at any business. He was knowledgeable and went above and beyond to take care of my needs and provide information I will use in the future. He was happy to help instead of acting forced to do it. They even let me use a small space to install a part in case I needed help. They offered solutions for every problem I had, and they didn't just say "buy something" or "get a new one," like many places do. I felt very comfortable with my buying decisions for parts, etc. They also helped me catch an issue with my T-Maxx truck that I did not know about which would have frustrated me when I got home so I REALLY appreciated that they saved me the trip and aggravation I would have had. I will go back and recommend them to anyone looking for a range of hobbies. They have a wide variety of RC vehicles, boats, planes, etc. that will fit a variety of budgets, so you don't have to expect to spend a lot of money if you don't want to and get something great, or go crazy if you...
