My husband and I have lived in the area for about 3 years but this is the first time we've ever had Cotton Patch Cafe. We ordered online for pickup: chicken tenders w/ gravy & fries, extra side of fries, side of mashed potatoes, cup of chicken and dumplings, cinnamon apples, and dinner rolls.
I honestly didn't have high hopes since my experience for takeout is typically sub-par no matter where I go. But I was pleasantly surprised.
When we first walked in, we checked at the host stand to make sure we went to the right area to get our order. The hostess was busy at the moment but someone else stopped by to greet us and let us know the hostess would be with us shortly. When we told her that we were there for a pickup, she walked over to the bar area with us, made sure we didn't need to place a to-go order and then offered us seats while we waited. She was extremely genuinely friendly... so much so that I kind of wished we were dining in so we could have her as our server.
One might think that it was just the one person working there but nope. The bartender who was putting together our order was equally as friendly. I sat there shocked and kept talking to my husband about it because nowadays, friendly service is hard to come by unless it's a super expensive restaurant (if even there).
Obviously the quality of food matters when we choose a place to eat but I'll take a 3 or 4-star chicken tender at this Cotton Patch Cafe over a 5-star chicken tender anywhere else because of the level of customer service.
My husband said the chicken tenders were fine. "Nothing to write home about" were his exact words but good enough that he would definitely eat them again. The fries are on the soggier end which I love but he likes crispier fries so we're a house divided on those.
The cup of chicken and dumplings is the best I've ever had. Perfect texture on the dumplings and great flavor. Usually at other places this dish can be bland or the dumplings too tough... but Cotton Patch Cafe does it so well! They didn't try to elevate a simple comfort food into something it doesn't need to be. I'm already thinking about when I can get it again.
The dinner rolls are SO GOOD. Fresh, warm, soft. YUM. Definitely order a side of gravy to dip them in.
I was too full to try the mashed potatoes or cinnamon apples so the review of those will have to wait.
Long story longer: if you're in the area, go here. If you're not in the area,...

My friend and I enter the restaurant and request a booth, but the waiter leads us part of the way before abruptly turning around and seating us at a table behind the reception desk, without any explanation. This initial behavior should have been a cue for what was to come, alas, we chose to ignore.
Throughout our entire 90-minute ordeal, we felt constantly monitored and surveilled by different individuals, creating an uncomfortable atmosphere.
After taking our order, the server inexplicably informed us that she was switching us to another person, claiming it was because she had to go around. She also mumbled something about her Manager! However, there were plenty of staff and limited tables occupied, making her explanation seem like a lie.
Another person took over our table, keeping tabs on us under the pretext of checking on our needs. This continued, with around 4-5 individuals coming to us every 5-10 minutes, constantly disturbing us.
The situation escalated when, right after serving our main course, the server (who just a few minutes ago said she was switching us over) reappeared and asked us to pay. Her question was so shameful that she started it with "I have a weird question". This bizarre request left us embarrassed and confused.
Feeling uncomfortable and wanting to put an end to the awkwardness, I paid the check, to be left in peace.
Unfortunately, our ordeal didn't end there, as multiple people continued to disturb us until we finally decided to leave the restaurant.
The entire experience left us feeling humiliated, especially considering the way we were treated and watched throughout our meal. I am very sorry that I picked this restaurant.
As people of color who were subjected to this ill-treatment, I will definitely avoid this place.
P.S: Condescending terms were used to address fully grown men. They were off-putting and disrespectful. It is crucial to treat all customers with respect and dignity regardless of their appearance...
Read moreThis is my third time here... First time was great! This time wasn't good, very disappointed. Got seated by an elderly Lady, Table was dirty because the dishes was still there... the server told her "it's dirty" she replied " it's ok" she swiped the table with her hand and said there you go! I said I' m not sitting there until the table is wiped down.. She gets a DRY towel and wipes it down? I asked her is the towel wet?! She walked a couple of steps to where there was a bucket of water and cleaned the table off. Me and my daughter order the Fried Mushrooms for an appetizer.. Great and HOT! Ordered our food with our server, didn't get a name? waited for a period of time... we came at 11:30am to avoid the Lunch rush... there were 2 tables plus us. Finally the food arrives and it's COLD like it's been sitting at the window for awhile! he didn't table check to see if we needed anything OR how was our food?! I had to ask for water and napkins... which I know a lot of places DON'T bring napkins unless you ask. We finished our COLD food and I was going to take the Fried Mushrooms because that was the only food that was hot! but he came around looked at me... was about to ask for a to go box... he literally looked away an took another order! So, that was enough for me. We left the table waited at the front counter for our ticket. HE finally came and gave me the ticket, it was $34.15 I handed him $40.00 and he said thank you for coming.... So he decided to keep his own tip. I don't mind tipping at all.. but it's hard for me as a customer to get cold food and bad service!? I'm a server as well, So I know the steps to Great customer service. My Last trip to cotton Patch on 3040 @Mcarthur...
