Inept staff, poor maintenance. My 1st room’s A/C was terrible. I asked the front desk to have it fixed 3 Times in a row and no change. I bought a thermometer/humidity gauge and come to find out my room was above 80% humidity.
Finally, a man at the front desk said he’d have me moved. The next afternoon, after I got back from work, I asked about the room change. The lady behind the counter was snappy and arrogant with me and said that she called my room to let me know that I could change rooms, but I didn’t answer. Of course I didn’t answer!!! I wasn’t there, like pretty much everyone else in this hotel, I was out during the day. She said that b/c she didn’t have my cell phone number, that’s the only thing she could’ve done. So apparently, leaving a note in my room with that pen and little pad of paper is too far fetched to think of...
I had to argue with both the front desk, manager, and maintenance guy about this and finally got my room changed. The room wasn’t ready at the time, but The lady at the front desk said that if I packed my things, she’d have their staff move my things over. So I packed up all of my stuff, including my groceries. But when I got back, sure enough, my things hadn’t been moved over. The new lady at the front desk was surprised that they hadn’t and said she’d tell management. I haven’t heard from anyone about that, so I don’t know if she actually told anyone or not or if anyone really cared.
The new room I was in smelled awful, but this was the only room they had and at this point, I was just glad I had better A/C.
Then, I did a load of laundry. There were 2 washing machines, but one was out of order. I used the working one, but after the cycle was done, I found my clothes piping hot even tho I selected cold wash. I talked to the person behind the desk about it and he said another customer told him the same thing a while ago. So apparently, nothing had been done about it.
The next week, I went to do laundry again. The same machine was still out of order. So in 2-weeks time, nothing was done about this washer. So I had to use the same washer. I thought that maybe the hot and cold cycle buttons were swapped. I put my clothes in, felt cold water, and thought problem solved. But when I returned, there was still hot water. Come to find out that the hot and cold water hoses were in the wrong inputs. What kind of “maintenance” guy doesn’t know to attach the blue colored hose to the “C” input and the red colored hose to be “H” input?!? This is an easy fix and I figured since their staff can’t handle this, i could help them out. I asked the front desk for some pliers to fix it but she refused saying that she couldn’t let me “take apart” the washer and that she needed to let her “professional engineer” fix it.
I understand the supposed liability issues that she’s concerned about, but come on man! What kind of stupid pansy world are we living in where maintenance guys don’t know squat about their job and doing a simple task that would help anyone staying here is out of the question? Where in the world has common sense gone?!?!
She did write down he problem and said she’d have their staff back. Then, I had to ask her for a refund of my money. You’d think that if this hotel made a mistake, their first mentality would be to make it as right as possible. But no offer of refund me or to pay to have my clothes laundered elsewhere or some other way to prioritize customer service.
Also, for a “non-smoking” hotel, it sure does smell like pot all the time, everywhere! The hallways are wafting with the smell. So good luck on getting a truly non-smoking room.
I should mention that this hotel does some nice qualities. They serve dinner Mon-Thurs with free beer and wine, which is helpful in your wallet and he lady who manages it is very kind and does a good job. Having a range, full-sized fridge, cookware and utensils is great, too. Also, the cleaning staff washes dishes every day, so kudos to them.
But poor maintenance and lack of customer care gives them...
Read moreI really like Hampton Inns. However I have mixed feelings about this Homewood by Hampton. Located in Dallas.
The Good: Reasonable price. Our room slept four adults. A king sized bed and a full or queen sized pull out sofa-bed. Our bed was very comfortable. Separate living-room of sorts, furnished with the mentioned sofa, a comfortable easy chair, ottoman and a second TV.
Heater worked very well. Not noisy at all.
Also a separate mini kitchen, equipped with a full sized fridge with ice-maker. A microwave. A stove top with 2 electric heaters. A two-cup coffee maker (much appreciated). A sink and small counter area. A small kitchen table with two chairs. A cabinet with dishes, two pots etc (see attached pics). And a dishwasher.
Provided, we found a single dishwasher detergent pellet, a mini bottle of dish detergent and the typical hotel bathroom toiletries.
All-in-all, the room felt large, not crowded.
Plenty of hot water for bathing/showering. Shower head equipped with several settings including a pulse massage which was a nice treat in the morning.
Free hot breakfast. Always a plus! Single egg folded omelets. Sliced sausage one morning. Sausage patties the next fried potatoes one morning. Sausage gravy the next. Oatmeal, served ready made. Make-your-own waffles. Assorted fruits, breads, pastries drinks etc. Yogurts. Soda, teas, coffees. Good stuff. I enjoyed the eggs, meat, oatmeal and potatoes with a very tasty cup of hot sweet tea. What a great way to begin the day. And FREE always tastes better.
The Bad: This hotel definitely in need of remodeling. Old worn carpeting in hallways. A dingy odor (probably due to some guests. More on that below). Bathtub faucet leaked water (see pics). Kitchen cabinets were painted a poor choice of brown and looked like a cheap attempt to upgrade appearance. Missing cabinet handles. NO PANS! Only two pots. So, we could not fry the frozen burgers we brought along. Disappointing.
The Ugly: I hate to say this, but, this type of hotel seems to attract guests who may be temporarily living there. Unfortunately we witnessed a few "bad apples" amoung those mentioned guests.
We believe some, if not all the dingy odors may have been caused by guests smoking in the hotel and/or body odor. Smoking what? Who knows?
We witnessed a guest, who appeared to not have showered/bathed in days. This same guest dined on the free breakfast. This guest spilled waffle mix all over the waffle maker and table. Grabbed sausages and eggs with his filthy bare hands. Made a mess everywhere. I could see the disgust in the expressions of the hotel staff as they watched this uncleansed slob abuse the breakfast bar. It was a terrible sight to see. Mind you, this joker was dressed and ready to go to work. He was neither drunk nor on drugs. He showed a complete disregard to others. To food safety. To the spreading of disease. Terrible.
Overall the hotel was clean. Food was good. Staff friendly. However, Idk if I will ever do another hotel stay with kitchen. Such quarters seem to attract an element I prefer not to see, or to expose to my family.
I am sorry. But, how anyone can stay at a hotel which includes free hot water. Free shower. Free toiletries. And still come to breakfast, dressed to work, looking like a complete filthy pig, is beyond me. I find this quite unexcusable.
I recommend this hotel only because the staff is making a concerted effort. They cannot be blamed for issues caused by guests.
But, I do not feel this Homewood meets the expectations of Hamptons by Hilton. I do apologize to the staff, as I harbor no ill will towards them whatsoever.
Btw, there is a Cane's restaurant right next door. Very...
Read moreLet me start with some of the good things about this property. The staff were just great. I interacted with every department, including maintenance. Everyone gave a smile everywhere and every time. My stay included Easter Sunday with plenty of extra activity around the hotel; still all the staff were perfect. NOTE: much of the staff were bilingual English-Spanish. Some of the housekeeping staff appeared to be Spanish-only speakers but that is not uncommon now around many places in the country.
The hotel was flexible with my schedule. I had to change my stay days twice and extend twice while there. While the hotel seemed somewhat full they worded it out.
As all the Homewood Suites go, the food was ok. I am never pleased with hotel food probably because it is too formulaic and predictable. Their food was hot, the buffet was neat and the dining room clean and kept up with.
My wife has a saying, "It's all downhill from the lobby." Besides the aforementioned, my wife was not far off in this instance.
The whole hotel was in need of a "refresh." Most chain restaurants do this every 5 to 7 years because of ware-and-tear and to remain relivent as a brand. I don't know if hotels do the same, although I have stayed is some during renovations, but I imagine they do. This property was desperately in need of new everything. I don't think for lack of care but just the long years of service. If this property has been refreshed in the last 7 years, they used the wrong material to do it.
I think this brand nationwide has the extended stay business traveler as its target. I encountered 3 or 4 families using this as permanent longterm housing. I had only a few observations where the children were rowdy. Unsupervised around the property they were polite if not very self-aware.
This last observation is somewhat difficult to make. I think either some level of drug and prostitution activity was taking place on site from time to time. I saw classic drug "courier" activity where it seemed someone was the go-between with a dark part of the parking lot and another person was on running out from another location also to the dark part of the parking lot. I do not do drugs so I do NOT KNOW for sure. As far as prostitution goes, too many times during the week I pulled in to the parking lot near a parked car only to have two heads shoot up from being below the dashboard to above the dashboard. This activity was not all the time but enough to be noticed as not nothing.
Knowing this should ready you for...
