While traveling in the area, we made a stop at Rock Town Distillery to check them out. We often frequent various breweries & distilleries on our travels. We were unfortunately disappointed with this stop. We came in for the 2pm tour on a Friday afternoon & were the only patrons. We made contact with the staff who informed us the tour guide was on break even though we still had about 10 min or so before the scheduled time. Due to that, the staff gave us options to just try the tastings that would have been associated with the tour or to try a flight. We opted on a flight, which unbeknownst to us cost $42 for one, compared to the $15 tour we planned to take. The staff advised they would take us on an abbreviated walk-through tour afterwards, but that never happened either. The overall feeling we had was that we were an inconvenience to the staff from the moment we walked in. The two female staff never introduced themselves or seemed open to much conversation. So much so, the one walked off & the other sat at the end of the bar on a computer after she gave us a snip-it of info on the flavors & then prepared the flight. Normally our experiences of such places are friendly & welcoming, places that make you want to stay and hang out a bit, but this was not the case here. Hopefully other patrons have a different experience than we did & staff reflect on how their behaviors/attitudes represent their...
Read moreFun tour with Emily as our guide. Very energetic and passionate about her work. The tasting was a treat. The bourbons were impressive, but the real surprise were the vodkas. Only sampled two, one plain and one flavored. The plain was what you might expect from a plain vodka except it didn’t have the lava burn and paint thinner skin peeling that some of the other vodkas I’ve tried had. The flavored vodka on the other hand, was a true delight. It was a new flavor, blueberry lemon, and it was the best straight drinking vodka I’ve ever tried. After the tour we had a few drinks at the bar and really enjoyed ourselves. Smoke free, quiet enough to have a conversation with anyone in the room almost, and the bar staff were friendly and knowledgeable. Allora and Abby were two of the bar staff we had the pleasure of talking to, but the rest of the staff was equally professional and courteous. We were treated like old friends the entire time we were there. We never once felt like we were being rushed to leave or pushed to spend more on drinks. If I could leave more than five stars I would. My wife and I are already planning trips in the future with...
Read moreI like Rocktown; I do. But tonight soured my opinion of them just a little. Or maybe a lot. They kind of messed up my night by making me feel unwelcome and a little dumb. I was actually there to buy gift cards for some Xmas presents, and I changed my mind. This is the second time I’ve been there and felt like a particular bartender was kind of having a bad night, maybe, because of her demeanor. There were two open chairs at the bar, so we took them. Only after getting situated we were told by this particular bartender that we weren’t allowed to sit there because it was “the mat” area that they “prefer to keep open” for people to order drinks. Advice: don’t have chairs somewhere you don’t want people to sit - it doesn’t make sense. And here’s an idea, how about having a clearly designated spot for this, maybe where there aren’t chairs, and where there is signage (on the bar or hanging from the ceiling) which indicates you can’t sit there. I’ll still consider buying their spirits at the liquor store, but for now, I’m not going back to a place that says (in forest gump little girl voice) says, “you...
