My last visit to Community Bakery definitely left a bad taste in my mouth and it wasn't because of the food. My wife had ordered a birthday cake for my daughter's 8th birthday party. She had started chatting them a few weeks ago to map out the details of the cake and cost. The weekend before the party, they store and my wife chatted about the visual details of the cake and we were given a base price and told they would get back to us on Tuesday with the upgraded price. Cool. We didn't get the updated price until Wednesday. A day late, but, no biggie. My wife, on Thursday, calls to check on the timing of when it would be done for the party on Saturday. We were informed by Julie that it would be done by 1pm on Sat. My wife told them that would be too late seeing how the party started at 1pm. Then, Julie said it would be done by 9am on Saturday to accommodate our party. So, Saturday comes rolling around and my wife forgot which location it was at. So, she called, talked to Julie again, and got which location it was at. My wife was again reassured it was going to be ready by 9am. At 11:30am I and the bestie went to obtain the cake from the downtown location. When I got there I asked for the cake and was informed I was about an hour early. With a puzzled look on my face, I asked about it being ready at 9am and they had no answers for me. I was told that it was being worked on and it would ready in 20-30 mins. At 11:47 I stepped out to call my wife and see what all the details to getting the cake were. She told me about all the details I previously mentioned. So, we waited 30 mins, I went back in. It was still being worked on. I then informed them of all the information my wife gave to me and all I got was an, "Okay." Not even an apology for any of the delays or miscommunications that were involved in this whole situation were given. So, we waited another 15 mins and this time I waited in the store. I felt like they couldn't get me out of the store quick enough. Then, when the cake came out, it looked great, but, again, no apology was given and instead a "Thank you" was stated. Like, an apology could have been the least the store could have dished out, but, no. I might have given them a better rating on Customer Service, but, I am also remind of the times when I would deliver for them through a 3rd party app and every time I went there to pick up an order I was treated as if I was a plague. They couldn't get me out of there quick enough. Very disheartening. I'm always a big advocate for local businesses, but, when they do things like this, I lose that want to direct anyone to places that handle their customers with below par skills....
Read moreI have been a Community Bakery customer all of my life. I even remember my mother purchasing birthday cakes from this bakery when I was a little girl. HOWEVER, over the past few years, I have been more than DISAPPOINTED with the customer service. The workers, with an exception to very few, have been rude and discourteous! For the past three years, each and every birthday cake order has been incorrect, yet because I LOVE the taste of their white cake and butter cream icing, I continue to endure. This past weekend, I purchased a half sheet cake and sugar cookies for my son’s birthday party. Not only were my purchases at the WRONG LOCATION, but they were also incorrect AGAIN! After the inconvenience of driving from the Shakleford location to Main, I then had to wait for them to correct the order because it was completely WRONG! With that said, I missed the first half of my son’s birthday party and did not receive one “I’m sorry” from management. In fact, the one and only time a manager even stepped out of the kitchen to acknowledge me was when I requested to speak to one after being expected to PAY FOR MY INCORRECT ORDER. I was completely shocked and insulted. The actual manager that came to speak with me was JOHN SPROLES. Mr. Sproles was RUDE AND UNAPOLOGETIC. He acted as if I was an inconvenience to him and continued to repeat the phrase, “that’s all that I can do,” several times as I expressed how upset I was by the service. IF YOU PLAN TO ORDER FROM THIS STORE, YOU MUST FIRST CONSIDER IF YOU VALUE GREAT CAKE OVER RESPECT AND SERVICE! My advice: you can get great...
Read moreFirst off, I don't usually do this sort of thing. I would normally take my bad experience and never return. However, because this day was special to me and my family went out their way to try to make it special for me, I felt the need to share.
So my sister ordered a cake from the Community Bakery on Main Street so that I could have a cake on my birthday to share an experience through video chat with my family. They had good reviews so, we thought we would have something to complete this momentous occasion.
When I went to pick up the cake yesterday, I spoke with them and let them know that my sister was not happy with the cake, and the manger stated very rudely, "So....what do you want me to do?" Like I'm supposed to come up with a solution. The decorator was gone for the day so I left the cake with them to pick up the "fixed" cake the next day (today, a day AFTER my birthday).
The round cake in the first picture is what she ordered online. The second picture with the red lettering was the first cake I went to pick up yesterday that wasn't what she ordered. I picked up the second cake with the blue lettering today, a day after my birthday and it was stale, crumbly, dry, and overall was one of the worst cakes and experiences that I have ever had. On top of that, although the cake was bigger and looked better, it still wasn't what...
