Honest Update: You only get a discount code IF you give them a 5 star review… not good practice, because that’s inaccurately skewing review data… so when people make decisions to come to this place based on reviews and somehow they’re let down like we were, things start to make sense and make you question how they had such high reviews, but we were an outlier. With that being said, see the details below:
Space: great aesthetic, size of the room and props, general theme made sense and there was a good variation of puzzles (ie not just traditional locks)
Logic & Flow: plain and simple, it’s not making sense… whoever planned it might’ve thought some things were intuitive, but they really weren’t, and a good portion of the clues were random and lacked cohesion (for the sake of the story, not for the sake of having a linear room).
Props & Locks: some didn’t work, even when the game master came in and tried the code (which we even verified) didn’t work, so that’s something that needs to be figured out. There was a wheel in our room that seemed to be necessary to move and help solve another clue; however, I think that was broken and the game master had to speak over the mic to tell us not to really use it and maybe just unlocked our next clue.
Game Masters: the people who brought us in and out of the room were nice; HOWEVER, the guy we started with couldn’t hear us over the mic (despite us following the directions exactly) we spoke into the speaker loudly, repeated ourselves at least 5 times and waited patiently, but it took AT LEAST 10 minutes just to get a clue and the only reason we got a clue after ~15 minutes was because my partner hit the escape button, walked out of the room, and told them that we were waiting for them for 10 mins to pay attention so we could keep going. We got asked like 3 times what we were stuck on… as if there aren’t 5 cameras and mics in that room. Then, the GM switched like 20 minutes in, and that also caused a delay. The clues at first were announced, but then towards the end clues weren’t announced, while we weren’t near the clue board, despite that being the pattern before. At the end, we asked a few questions and she was kind to explain a few things, but that’s when she realized the locks weren’t working and that was just supposed to be it.
IMO— when locks don’t work, the room should be temporarily unavailable, discounted, or time needs to be added due to GM delay for them to get in and get it unlocked, due to faulty supplies. On top of the faulty locks, the reason behind the delayed support was being under staffed and corporate being on site at the same time… though I have empathy for the GM, I find it unacceptable to be paying what we did, for the excuses and poor experience overall. Again, that’s where a comped room, the room being temporarily unavailable, or something… but it was not a good experience unfortunately.
Next Steps: Get more staff Test every aspect of the room Update the tech so GM’s can hear the players Seek and employ helpful feedback… otherwise, that’ll be shutting down sooner than later… I’ve done the same brand in other states and it was not nearly as chaotic...
Read moreOkay, here me out. This is our 22nd escape room between a few different states, and THE SUBMARINE WAS NOT IT AT ALL.
Before reading my review, take a look at A Dev’s review and the few others that talk about the room.
We recently did an escape room tour in 4 days where we completed all 3 of the rooms at Mystic Escape. We won 2 out of 3. We really had an amazing time there and loved it so much that we decided to find other rooms close to home. This is how we stumbled across Escape the Room.
The check-in experience was great as the gentleman who answered our questions was VERY nice prior to arriving and after we arrived. The other employees did their jobs and made sure to cover the routine before we started.
However, that was the best part about the experience. It is definitely non-linear, not a healthy mix, nor intuitive. The lackluster sound effects and loose knobs on the first submarine door reminded me of the playplace at McDonald’s when I was a kid. Remember those plastic wheels that the kids turned until the wheel was basically wobbly?
The components like the manipulator tools, cords and gloves for the red box seemed dirty which didn’t help us feel relaxed. About 15/20 minutes in, morale was in the garbage.
Two experienced players looking defeated and frustrated.
I don’t think the room was well executed, and we were noticeably irritated throughout the experience.
I washed my hands after the game but my wife didn’t want to. When I asked why, she said it was because she wanted to leave because she really didn’t enjoy it. I had to encourage her to take a minute to wash her hands and then we left.
My wife and I are typically afraid to express concerns due to fear of confrontation so we decided not to, smiled and took the L.
SPEAKING OF L’S… WHY when someone loses is there a voiceover audio that says
“ YOU LOSE- YOU’RE A LOSER”?!
Think of how that can be interpreted. I’ve lost friends and family to $uicid3 and more recently in 2021 almost lost my wife to the same thing.
Losing is apart of every game but why this message?
Is it automatically played or was someone choosing to play that message?
This can be hurtful to kids and adults who struggle with self-esteem and mental illness.
Enthusiasts are in it for fun, so let’s just keep it light and fun without telling someone what they are and how they should think of their efforts.
Thoroughly disappointed with the experience in that room. Really a waste of $76.
We are moving out of state in two weeks, so definitely won’t be back but hope they can consider the reviews on this specific room.
I know it takes time but it would be...

I recently wrote a review about my initial experience at this escape room, which wasn’t up to par. However, I was impressed by how promptly and sincerely the management team reached out to address my concerns. They invited me back for a second try, and I’m glad I accepted the offer. This time, my experience was vastly improved. The new room I tried was creatively designed, with challenging but enjoyable puzzles and an engaging storyline. The staff was incredibly friendly and attentive, enhancing the overall experience. This turnaround has completely changed my view, and I’m already looking forward to my next visit. It’s clear that they genuinely care about their customers’ experiences.
1st experience below
Props: The majority of props in the Western Bank Heist escape room were of high quality, contributing to the thematic experience. However, it's disappointing that two props were broken, and the game master struggled to open one afterward, detracting from an otherwise immersive setting.
Clues: Despite having tackled over 30 escape rooms, the clues in this experience were subpar. They seemed excessively random and lacked cohesion, making it challenging to follow a logical progression. A more thoughtful approach to clue design would significantly enhance the gameplay.
Game Master and Accessibility: The game master's absence for the initial 20 minutes was a notable drawback, affecting the flow and engagement. Additionally, having to exit the room and knock on the staff door for clues disrupted the immersive experience. Improved accessibility to the game master and more integrated clue delivery methods would greatly enhance the overall escape...
