A great not very crowded Sunday walk in Denver! PSA: do NOT let your dogs drink stream/lake/river water in Denver (and I usually don’t even let my dogs get in 🙃) #dog #dogsoftiktok #dalmatian #denver #fyp

This is a fantastic place for a stroll. We absolutely adore the Plate River Trail and are gradually working on walking it in sections. This week, we started from the trailhead and the nature center near Santa Fe Avenue. The nature center was incredibly interesting and had some really cool exhibits. Plus, there were public restrooms there, which was a nice touch. Just a heads up, you’ll need to be careful of the cyclists. They can sometimes go a bit too fast, but most of them are pretty considerate. The trail goes both north and south, and we decided to go south. We walked all the way down to the bird blind and the small marshy area. Now, for getting back to the trailhead, you have two options. You can either go back the way you came or you can walk west around the lake to Mineral Avenue. We chose to walk around the lake. Just a warning, though - you’ll need to exit the park at Mineral Avenue. The gate there isn’t working, but if you’re flexible enough, you can slide under it. If not, you’ll have to backtrack. Also, don’t be fooled by the path that heads east around the lake - it’s a dead end. Be careful crossing Mineral Avenue to get to the Mineral Trail Path/Sidewalk. It’s a short and easy walk from there to the trailhead. I highly recommend this walk!

Over on the c-470 side every time I go fishing there I see monster catfish 6 ft and bigger in those lakes! My youngest child refuses to fish here cuz he calls them River monsters lol. The smallest one I've seen was 6 ft thery are gargantuous! ❤️ So fishers be warned. There's also huge carp over there! There's all kinds of fish but I'm just mentioning what I've seen the most! And all kinds of snakes are always in and around the waters 😍 I've caught multiple snakes who have came through the waters to shore right next to me while I was fishing ❤️ However where the one star comes from..I have been coming here since I was a tiny little girl but apparently you have to pay now to go to the South Platte, THE RANGER TOLD ME IT WAS BECAUSE OF ALL THE OUT-OF-STATE FOREIGNERS TRASHING OUT THE PARK. I said I've been a native here for 40 years and I have to pay the consequences that's not fair. If they're not needed to Colorado just don't allow them to come in it's that easy. Don't make those of us who spend our tax dollars be punished. The park worker said he agrees 100% and he's sorry.

One of my favorite places to walk, especially since they recently redid their roadways and parking, so it is all newly paved roads and paved parking, right next the best trail heads, with wide cement bike trails and parallel gravel walking trails. Excellent trail guilde posts. Great ADA Handicap parking at all 3 parking lots, right at the trail heads.

It is a perfect place for walking dogs, biking, walking, or running for individuals and families, and there are picnik tables at various points, along the trails, with beautiful photography overlooks and quiet fishing points along the 3 lakes and trails that run all along the South Platte River.

The whole area is beautiful and well maintained, open for cars and parking from...
