What an awesome gem to have here in LA County. Its magnificently preserved and, everyone is so nice. I went for the Victorian Christmas and it was decorated so beautifully. The place is awesome and I loved learning about the house and former owner. 2 curious things. I did research after I returned home and they mention that the house was in the family for 80 years. Dorothy lived in the house alone for over 30 years.Imagine my horror discovering afterward in own research that poor Dorothy was actually murdered somewhere on the grounds and found in the backyard in 1999!! The city acquired the property the very next year. I am in no means imply the city had anything to do with her murder, what I am saying is I was shocked as I was very much alive in 1999. The researched also showed Dorothy seemed to love this house, how many more years couldshe have loves and lived in thia beautiful hime had she made it to the millennium. I know it would be a downer but while talking extensively about Dorothy and Hazel no mention is made of her murder and I'm curious if they do mention it in the regular tours. 2nd curious was the theme this year was Christmas tree and..well you know what never mind but one od their Christmas tree facts is just a myth but since ita not related to the house forget it. I cant wait to go back to do a...
Read moreWhat a beautiful experience! The tour was holiday themed. The tour guides shared stories of where different Christmas traditions came from. It was very interesting! Can't wait to go back to see and learn more about the history. One tip... Get there early! Parking can be a big a problem. After driving around, I got lucky. My friends drive around for quite a while not finding anything. I asked if they offer refunds. I wish I got the lady's name, but one of the tour guides offered for them to park behind her car. Behind the house, there was space for her to move her car forward and they parked behind her. I highly recommend the tour of this beautifully preserved 1906 home. All the furnishings are original. Go and learn a lil bit about the beginnings of Long Beach, the home and...
Read moreI grew up across the street from this house in 92 to about 95 and would go over to visit friends. We were all so terrified of the house and the lady. We all thought she was a witch. She would stand at her window and push the curtain to the side and stare. I remember seeing her one day at the market and I screamed and ran outside. My mom laughed at me. She never bothered anyone but so so many kids and even adults would mess with her. They would throw alcohol bottles over the fence on the back. Play ding dong ditch. Yell at her. Looking back all she wanted was peace and quiet. I'm so sorry for all the havoc that was...
